Can you maybe show us a more clear photo of the 2 of you, so we can suggest what would look best? It's too difficult to tell from your avatar (it looks distorted a bit).
Nah, it's not so much that I need suggestions, it's just that I was hoping to see others' more dressy e-photos, to see how well they came out, how natural their outfits looked in their surroundings, poses they did that looked great, that sort of thing, for inspiriation!
Also, my avatar isn't distorted--I guess that's just our faces. :P
Here's the link to ours...not sure how formal you wanted to go, hope it helps!
Yep, most of them are so casual now. My BFF did a semi-formal e-session, but I dont feel comfy posting her pics on here lol
I would love to see others though!
@lizzy1311: Aw yay! Finally a response. We are going a bit dressier than any of your outfits (ie floor length gown for me, and him in a suit), but it is definitely nice to see some photos in more formal settings than usual, and very helpful. Thanks! Your photos look super-cute--now I'm going to go through them all. :)
@HoneyBear: Aw haha so you just dangle their existence in my face. :P
Annoyingly, when I google "formal engagement shoot", pretty much all I get are like, post-wedding photos! The bride is in a white dress and the groom is in a tux.
FI is wearing an espresso suit with a vest and tie and I'm wearing this dress:
FI and I already take awkward posed photos when we're together (I have no idea why), so this formal shoot should be an adventure! Fortunately, both of us are pretty comfortable in dressier attire, though tbh I've never worn a full-length dress of my own before! Only for a few other photo shoots, and then also trying on wedding dresses. And those photoshoots were supposed to make the DRESS look good, not me...so yeah, this will be quite an experience. Which is why I was looking for some inspirational photos from couples who did it and have the glorious images of success to prove it. :D
I can't find a picture online, but I'm going to be wearing a black Argenti cocktail dress with a couple white & black asymmetrical lines crossing it & net 3/4 length sleeves with some black tights and either boots or heels. not sure what FH will wear though! he's 6'5" 300lbs so he's not the easiest to shop for... I'm thinking a pinstripe or gray button up with the sleeves rolled and dark jeans since his slacks are very... suit-y and big. lol i don't know! and maybe a tie... possibly a cool one?
@elliestan: High-five! Yay, I'm not alone, haha. Your outfit and the idea for his sound great. When are you having them taken? Be sure to post pics. Ours aren't until January 12!
@veganglam: oof! ours will be in February! but since it'll be chilly I've got a '50s style red 3/4 sleeve knee length coat i'm planning on bringing too just in case. maybe you could look into a dressy coat (at least between shots because if the pictures are in January I assume you'll need it! maybe a nice scarf and some boots as well since you'll be outside? and your FH can wear a tweed pea coat tux or suit with slim slacks? that'd be a nice way to get a bit formal while still keeping apropos to the natural setting. if you want to go super formal then you can have the glam dress (it's gorgeous!) under a bolero or faux fur or knit wrap. there's so much you could do! stick him in a morning suit and do dramatic poses in the woods! haha
@elliestan: Oh you know the way to my heart--I LOVE guys in really nice morning suits, gah! But we are doing the shoot at sunset and probably going out to a nice dinner afterwards so the morning suit might not work heh. I actually have this amazing ivory and gold coat circa-1964 that was a piece of couture made for some wealthy NY socialite--I got it for like $80 on ebay when I was 16 and it's just incredible, so I will probably wear that and take it off and top it with a faux fur shrug or something for most of the photos! Footwear, I'm scared to think about. I guess I'll just drag my snowboots along in case it has snowed, but I hope not. We're doing them in the perimeter around The Cloisters in NYC, so I'm guessing most places would be pretty well cleared, but we might also do some in the surrounding Fort Tryon Park, so there could still be snow there. And in any event, my feet will very likely get cold in the heeled sandals I plan to wear (with tights, but still). FI, I don't know what he'll wear to keep himself warm--he's got an espresso-colored suit and will wear it with a vest and tie of some color, and it's warm but not THAT warm (like, he was wearing it last night and wining about how cold it was on the five-minute walk back to our apartment--AFTER we had drinks).
Your outfit sounds so pretty and I bet the red coat is going to look beautiful with the black dress against the winter landscape (does it snow where you are?). I hope you do post pics, even if they won't be around for me to steal ideas from before ours. :P
I wore a tea-length dress and FI wore a collared shirt and vest with jeans. I can give you pics if that's dressy enough....but i think that yours will be more formal than that.
@heatherrobyn: They will be, but I'd still love to see your pics! :) A tea-length dress is definitely more dressy than the norm! Plus tea-length dresses are so pretty, in general.

Me and the Mr. won an engagement shoot and the photographer are looking for it to be "very formal" in nature. I think I have a good idea of what we're going to wear, but I'm still looking. I would love it if you posted pics or links of your engagement shoot if it was on the formal/dressier side--most shoots these days tend to have the couple in quite casual attire!
