As many of you may know, we had a smaller wedding March 7th 2012 so that my sick grandmother could be there. It was a beautiful small wedding/big elopement! Here was my cake:
Yeah! We had a very non-traditional…math cake! It says, “Our Normal Approach is Useless Here”! We loved it! It looked great AND was delicous! We will definitely be using the same baker next year, but I also want some ideas from you ladies. We definitely want non-traditional…but I want something with a little more drama than this.
Also, if I can find it on ebay (it’s discontinued…so frustrating, I ordered it 3x and 3x got refunded because it was discontinued!) I will be using this cake topper…otherwise I’ll re-use the other one:
So give me some ideas!! So…SHOW ME YOUR CAKES!!!

This is ours, except it won’t have the roses on top, we are going with our initials in bling for the topper

This was our cake. Not sure how non-traditional it is, but it’s not your “typical” wedding cake:
The recipe we used is the same recipe Mother-In-Law uses for all birthdays. She even had to teach the caterer’s people how to make the icing for the cake.

@katnyc2011 Wow! She had to teach the caterer’s a new thing–that’s awesome!! Very cool cake!
@CharmCityLady so glad you got it!! I definitely could get away with that cake for a small wedding/big elopment..but not sure how that would work with a bigger crowd :-/ hoping to get a non-traditional cake idea that could work with this crowd and not be too “out there”.

Here is ours. We definitely did non-traditional with having a gamer geek cake and cupcakes! 🙂

Those are cool too! I like the double cake idea 🙂

I don’t have a picture, but I’d say we are we are gointo with an untraditional flavor/cake. I absolutely love tres leches (three milks) cake. It’s a spongey cake made with condensed, evaporated, and regular milk soaked in with a meringue icing. So yummy, and a nod to my Latin background.

@NessaNessa: I love that cake! So creative!
@dodgercpkl awesome! Darling Husband would have loved that for his cake.
We had cupcakes and other desserts instead of cake:

I want to make my cake like this one:

We’re doing strawberry fruit tarts. They’re going to be on a stand just like this. They will be surrounded by all peonies.

His surprise groom’s cake… We met because of Radiohead, so the Radiohead bear is just fitting. It’s going to confuse everyone and probably scare gramma, but I don’t care. <3
Then for our wedding cake, my idea is to have deconstructed tiers. Ours will be tall and round, but you get the idea:
