Show me your non-traditional wedding dress

My advice is to go with your gut. I loved my dress, and I have zero regrets about wearing something nontraditional. I only recommend that you make sure you “feel” like a bride. I felt like a bride once I had my long lace sleeves, veil, and bouquet. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I wanted to still feel a little different than if I was just dressed up. Best of luck! And all I got was compliments on my dress–if people know you, they won’t be like, “Y no ballgown?”

LonnyLee:  I’m also wearing a non-traditional dress. I’m just hoping FI and family arent disappointed in seeing the bride in something so “non-bridal looking”. It’s a Dolce Gabbana lace sheath and I found it on sale for 50% off.

I think if you are gravitating towards the grey dress, it must be because it’s “you” and fits your personality vs. some idea of what a bride is supposed to look like.

Here’s my dress:

LonnyLee:  mine is actually an off-the-shelf evening dress I found randomly on sale at Bloomingdale’s. I tried on a ton of traditional wedding dresses and none of them felt like me. I’m not a tomboy, but not a “princess” type either. 🙂 The color is a nude with silver sequins and beads, and I’ll be wearing a champagne colored veil and sparkly silver wedges. This is is before alterations (don’t have any after pics):

I hated the poofy white dress thing so I was incredibly happy when I found BHLDN’s gowns!

While it was still bridal it was definitely NOT poofy, more flowy.

I suppose you could consider mine nontraditional and it is not poofy at all! I would love to see yours!

Soon2ElopeBee:  That dress is beautiful! I love all of the BHLDN dresses!

LonnyLee:  THat sounds GORGEOUS, every detail practically has me salivating… do you have pictures of the grey dress? I adore 1920s/vintage style in general 🙂

My dress was a pale yellow, as you see. (Actually it’s hard to tell in the light isn’t it?) Absolutely no one was surprised, lol. Vintage dress from Etsy. I even had a second, even less traditional dress for the reception which my MIL (an artist) made from hand-painted silk.

Ignore the stupid look on my face, but I went for ivory & knee length. I’m not girly by any means & we are having a sunrise ceremony.

The dress you picked is sooooo pretty. But I’m biased because I am vert much a grey fan. I am also a sucker for a bit of sheer.

I’m so not princessy. Either. I am on the hunt for a black and white dress with sleeves.  First, good luck finding a black and white dress.  Then you add 3/4 length or cap sleeves to it and it’s impossible.  Ya’ll have rejuvenated me in my search! My dress is out there!
