I’ve been using weddingbee for a while and I have seen very few brides mention they have purchased a pre-owned dress. I did and I am curious about other brides who did. I couldn’t afford to buy a dress in a bridal shop. I found the dress of my dreams, and was able to afford it by purchasing it from a former bride. Please show me our dress pics and explain why you decided to go the pre-owned route?

jennie.elliott2: Congrats, your gown is beautiful! I am also a pre-owned dress bride! Although my dress wasn’t technically worn as the person who purchased it before me ended up cancelling her wedding. I chose to go this route because I had already purchased 1 dress and wasn’t very happy with it, I wanted a lace Allure so to make that second dress work in my budget I had to shop outside the bridal shop! Couldn’t be happier 🙂

jennie.elliott2: I got this on ebay for 500$ with tags attached. I’m so happy with my choice and i saved a ton of $$.

I went shopping once at a bridal consignment shop that sells sample and pre-owned dresses. Tried on 8 dresses, the third I tried on was this Pronovias Nicole that was several years old, sample dress – meaning not really worn for anyone’s wedding, but tried on a lot. It had a little bit of dirt that was easily steamed out by my seamstress. She discounted it from $795 to 675 in case I needed to have it professionally cleaned. Worth every penny – could have easily asked way more, but I would’ve been sick over paying it. All of my wedded friends in the area used this bridal consignment shop, and most sold their dresses back to her after the event.

jennie.elliott2: I also got a pre-owned Maggie online (preownedweddingdresses.com), although it was technically still “new with tags attached” because the former bride’s wedding did not happen. I was pretty much forced into the pre-owned route because there was not enough time to order a new gown from a salon between when I finally got around to dress shopping and my wedding date. But I love my dress, and especially love that, even with $300 in alterations to make it the right size for me, it was still cheaper than buying new from the designer!

weddedbliss2014: leprechaura: declawed: coffeedrinker: Thanks so much for posting pics of your dresses. It felt like I was the only one going pre-owned. Lots of lace here. All the dresses are so beautiful!! It’s no wonder brides have trouble picking just one dress. I hope all you ladies have amazing weddings and marriages 🙂 I’ve got about 3 weeks until mine.
coffeedrinker: I was looking at almost the indentical dress to yours. I love the simplicity of the dress. But I just love lace so much when I found mine I had to have it.

- Wedding: May 2015 - small cafe
I just bought Watters Beverly Hills…I don’t have any pictures of me yet…I bought it from preownedweddingdress.com…It is brand new with tags still on it. The place was a discount bridal shop and helped me with the sash and veil, as well…..It was a wonderful shopping experience. I had seen the gown and fallen in love with it a couple of years ago…but could not justify the price. I save about $3000. I”m posting the modeled dress….when I have pictures of me in it…I’ll post them

I have no pics of it yet but I had a terrible accident with my original dress (a Ramona Keveza they now NO LONGER MAKE) where the top was ruined in alterations less than 2 months before my wedding and I was able to find the exact same dress pre-owned on Nearly Newly Wed – they were LIFESAVING.
Also, the dress is pristine, you’d never know it was worn before.

It would have been tight to order my dress new in time for my wedding. Even with $250 for alterations it wound up being cheaper than buying it from the boutique (and then I still would have needed alterations on top of that). My one issue was that the dress ended up being too small for me, but I luckily found a seamstress who let it out a lot. So I’d recommend knowing the size you are in that designer and trying to find one that is unaltered. Here’s my beauty!

This is my gown and cape that I got on bridepower.com (Vows from TLC) I think this dress was technically a sample but it had tags attached, all beading intact, no holes, nothing wrong with it at all. It’s stunning and I can’t wait to wear it! They also had it cleaned before they sent it since I spent over 1k. This style is a few years old now but it seems fairly rare since I haven’t seen photos of anyone else in it except the runway video from that year. I went this route because, well, fate led me to it! I saved over 3k on it and it’s stunning, unique, and completely 100% me 🙂
