Hi Bees! I’m on a roll and this is my second post today. I posted earlier about the opportunity I have to use a family heirloom stone in my engagement ring (see more info here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/is-3-5-carat-round-diamond-too-big-on-size-5-finger-its-an-heirloom/). In summary, it’s a 3.5 carat round brilliant diamond, about H/I in color. Other details still TBD.
I was speaking with our jeweler and he suggested bringing it into him to see if it could use any restoration, for instance a recutting. He said most they’ll ever lose is 20% weight but that’s unlikely especially if the stone is in good shape. I still haven’t seen the stone itself (I’m dying to!) but I figured I’d start on some research for now.
Has anyone done this before? i’d love to see before and after shots. I’m not too concerned about losing some size because it’s already going to be a whopper of a stone. I’m interested in how you all decided to do this and what your experience was like, including rough pricing and how long it takes and so on.
