I am really trying to be frugal and DO NOT want to spend a ton of money on a dress I will only wear for 8 hours... Please tell me it is possible....
Of course it's possible.I'm absolutely blowing up WB with this picture but here you go. It was $549

@KristenGotMarried: =D Thanks I am being told by people I am being unrealistic... Your dress looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Eden Bridals $425 (+ $50 for corset back alteration,) I got it for $372 including corset at www.netbride.com

I got this one for $700 before I bought the one above.

$98 for my baby! Alteration did cost a bit more because of the bustle but oh well! It was brand new and never been worn before. Ah, sample sales.

Since it is impossible to see the detailing of the bodice any other way, here is a close-up of all the gorgeous lace a beading

There are dresses at all price ranges... I ordered one that was $35. Now if you are looking for a custom big-name designer dress you may have trouble, but if you are flexible you'll find a thousand great options under $1000!
I haven't officially started dress shopping... more like dress looking lol. If that makes any sense at all. From looking at pictures, I have an idea of what I like and want.... However, I'm in the same boat as you with not wanted to spend a lot of money. I was trying to keep mine under $500, which seems perfectly fine considering I don't want a ball gown of any sort. I want more of a lace or chiffon sheath type dress with a short train. I have been looking on goweddingdress.com and they basically make knock-offs of all the popular designer dresses. And for most of them costing under $300, I may end up going that route. I can't vouch for their quality, but they do take custom measurements for a small fee extra, which means minimal to no alterations! I haven't looked at their return policy because, like I said, I'm not quite ready to buy yet.
And, like most brides, I don't want to miss the dress buying process with friends and family and such (actually, I could care less, but one of my bm's and my mother have already made it known they want to go dress shopping with me :-/) But I do plan to at least go try on dresses, just to get an idea of how certain styles fit.
Just an idea of course..... I'm also pretty sure that David's Bridal is having their $99 gown sale until the 16th (I keep seeing commercials).
My dress was $600, + 200 for the belt:
Totally do-able to find a great dress under $1,000! Good luck! :)
It can totally be done! davids bridal has a great selection under 1000, so does Mori Lee.
I paid $599 for my dress + alterations from group usa. Here
Here is mine I just bought on Saturday!! :D
It was under $1000 with tax and everything except alterations. It's Anjolique 1010, and I love it!! I also did not want to spend that much on a dress I woud only wear once. (Don't mind my face, I was having a really hard time keeping in my excitement :D)
*sigh* I went dress shopping on the weekend and I did not find one dress that was under $1200 :( yet the same dresses in the US are less!!' for example the AA Cinderella dress is $1299 and I swear ppl were saying it was less in the US :(
Mine was $800. I hadn't started alterations on it yet, but thankfully the only thing that needs it is the bottom! Sorry fo the terrible cell phone pics!

Mine is a Mori Lee and they have amazing dresses and a good 90% of them are under $1,000! Good luck!
Sadly I live in Canada we do not have Davids Bridal.. Thanks for giving me hope ladies...
I paid $529 for my dress it is a Sottero & Midgley. It was a sample. Still, need alterations
Check out Mori Lee dresses, they are beautiful (I think) and good quality and many are under $1000 from what I've seen.
I ended up ordering Mori Lee 4701 last Saturday from House of Brides. The suggested retail price was $840 or so, and the shop had discounted it by over $200, then we bargained off another $60. So AFTER shipping and handling + tax, the dress cost us only $608! I was also lucky enough to have the right size fit me PERFECTLY, with no alterations or hemming needed.
This sample dress in the pictures is a bit wrinkled- it looks MUCH better in person than in photos, I love it!
I feel like the first poster on here lol, but here it is anyway.... $860 without alterations yet.
I can't show a pic with me wearing it as I'm waiting for it to be delivered. Mine was under 200 pounds (I'm in UK) from a Chinese website.
Wow!! Love all the dresses ladies! I spent $700. I have not had alterations yet.
Here are some that i tried on that were under $1000.
Mori Lee 4808 $500 - $600 (flower can be removed

Mori Lee 4524 - $500 - $600

Mori Lee 1612 $880 (belt can be removed)

Wow, ladies! You all have some BEAUTIFUL gowns. I am amazed that they are all under $1K!
$549:

The stuff I won't wear again (dress, veil, slip) altogether were about $700. I do intend to try to sell the slip. I figure I'll re use the bra (which I don't have yet in this pic, which is why I look so saggy on top), I'll wear the shoes til they disintegrate, and I'll even re use the brooches on the sash.
My reception dress was under 1k. It's a Vera Wang White by David's Bridal. Hated my shopping experience, but I loved my dress.

I just got mine Saturday!! She was $199.00 at a liquidation sale :) I still love her... I can't wait to wear her!
This is the Maggie Sottero Desirae and I got it for $849 no including alterations!
My Enzoani that I bought for $805 at lordandtaylor.com

My Maggie Sottero Clemence I bought on POWD for $500
Maggie Sottero Karena Royale. I paid $725 plus tax, no alterations needed. MIne was a deal through my friend's mother who ordered it for me at her cost. BUT, it still would have been under $1000 if I had ordered it from Pearl's Place in LA. All you have to do is call them with designer and style and they will give you a price.
This is mine! You'll have to follow the link to see it, though haha.

@AubByAub: We are dress twins! Mine is supposed to be coming in March. I can't wait!
I bought my dress second hand for $700.
