I’ve never thought of uplighting as clubby, but that would explain why I love uplighting so much!

I didn’t have it at my wedding (didn’t need it) but here’s what it looked like at our engagement party. There were supposed to be more of them, but they didn’t bring enough extension cords.

@springbride23:  I have been working with 4 lighting vendors in the past week just to secure a reasonable quote for our February wedding. I think we’re just about there! What they all told me though was to skip blue uplighting because they said people don’t photograph well in it at all. The colors they all recommended were champagne and amber as it gave people a tan effect and photographed beautifully.

I’m honestly shocked at how much lighting costs! I’ll be happy to share photos with you after our wedding.

@springbride23:  Thank you! They did a great job…..mojitolady is right though, it does cost some $$, so I’d talk to your coordinator about rough estimates. A lot of it has to do with the fabric they put up/drape to catch the lighting (like in our pics we only have the wall behind the head table and the opposite wall with the bar covered in fabric (and the DJ booth was enclosed too) but thats because the walls were very neutral…..so they didnt really need it)….if the walls were dark or had a lot of busy stuff on it then you may need something to help the colour along.

I dont know how much ours was individually…it was all one big blob of a bill….(we told him our total budget and he fit it all in) …..decos, flowers, food, alcohol, DJ everything was included.

Oh man I wish I had more prof pics after the party started…. the guy switched the lighting so every 15-20 min it rotated to a new colour (green, blue, amber, pink……)

@springbride23:  If it helps, this is the pricing we received: $25 per uplight and we’re using 20 uplights. But here’s the thing: that cost doesn’t include setup and teardown labor and taxes. So our uplight cost was $500 and our labor fee was another $350 and then add in tax. I’ve heard of one off Craiglist lighting guys that offer to do it < $500 total, and you might get lucky with their service or not. But yeah, I’d budget closer to $700-900 for lighting, as opposed to $200-400. I wasn’t expecting the labor charge. 🙁
