It’s been 3.5 months since my wedding and I still think about it every day. It doesn’t help that I’m putting together a photo album (in addition to our photographer’s album) that includes the rehearsal dinner, wedding and honeymoon. And I have to admit, I want to show off everything about my wonderful day. But I know I’ll never be featured on some wedding website since I didn’t do anything spectacular and my photos aren’t artistic (no filters or cute staged poses). And my friends (and husband) are so over the wedding. So I thought the best place for me to show off would be here amongst my fellow bees. (I don’t know how I would have survived without you guys!)
I also what to see what your favorite parts were to your wedding. Was it something you DIYed or your dress, venue, flowers or simply a photo that you particularly love? And don’t say your favorite thing was finally being married to your wonderful DH or something equally sappy. I want pictures!! I love me my wedding p*rn
Most importantly, comment on someone else’s post. I mean, isn’t that the best part of showing off—knowing that someone else likes it too?
So these are the rules:
Couple of housekeeping things
This was so difficult to pick only my top 3 things. So here are things that didn’t make it:
So what are my 3 favorite things?!
#1 Hands down, the Yay Flags—they didn’t turn out as well in pictures as I hoped, but I loved walking past everyone while they were waving them, the ribbons flapping in the wind. I also love that our friends still have them in their homes—their kids love playing with them. (no kids at our wedding). It was totally worth the effort.
#2 Origami Koi—my DH and BIL did wet-fold origami on 18’ x 18” squares of watercolor paper. It took them forever, but it really made our reception tables so unique. There was lots of fighting over who was going to take the Koi home. (Please ignore the flowers in the picture. The wedding colors were orange and hot pink. The florist (don’t use Karin’s Florist in Vienna, VA) totally messed up and gave us orange and purple flowers—Argh!)
#3 Mizuhiki boutonniere—I’m half Japanese and tried to bring some Japanese touches without making it an Asian theme. So I used a type of cord made from paper called Mizuhiki. Again, it was lots of effort, but I loved out they turned out. Another bonus was that I was about to make one for my Irish dad that looked like a shamrock.
@mmsva: not married yet so nothing to post but i love yours! Those yay flags are awesome!
@mzlouis2b: Wow, I LOVE those bouts!!! They seriously look like they're done with a thin leaf, not cord. Those are AMAZING. I think some of my favourite bouts ever. I'm also very intrigued about your cake topper. Can you break your rule and post it?? Oh hang on, you didn't post a photo of the two of you!!
So here we are:

Okay, my favourite things:
One: This tree my friends decorated for me. It turned out better than I expected! The tree itself a friend hauled out of the wood somewhere, it's a corkscrew hazel. I bought the orchids and moss, which my girlfrieds wired on one by one. They put the votives I wrapped in lace around the bottom and it looked like a fairy land once it got darker. It was right behind our sweetheart table and I LOVED it.

Two, the silver teapots I collected at thrift shops. We used them for our centrepieces and our florist did such an amazing job filling them. They were so elegant and I love that each one was a little different. My sister, mom and my mom's neighbours helped me polish them all (40+ teapots and 60+ cream and sugar pots, plus candle stick holders!!!). It was awesome having everyone chip in and made it all the more meaningful :)

Three: The food. Our caterer was out of this world!!! (And he's pretty cute too, LOL!) He used organic, local food (including the meat) that was in season. This was an heirloom tomato gazpacho with a lobster salad. Omg. My stomach is grumbling just thinking about it.

That was SO hard!!!!
@bakerella: can you repost your photos using the "Upload files from your computer" underneath the comment box? For some reason that's the only way I can see pictures--thanks!
@mmsva: I am so jealous of your yay flags! They are so cute. I had planned to make some for our wedding but as the date approached, I said eff it! Wish I had followed through! Would have made for some adorable pictures.
@bakerella: I love everything about your wedding. But I'd love to see pics of that tree from when it got darker out. Do you have any?
Ok. Here's mine. A pic of us and pics of my 3 favorite things from the wedding.
#1 - LOCATION. Getting married on the pier was the most fun ever.
#2 - Getting to ride the ferris wheel with my new husband right after the ceremony.
#3 - Getting serenaded by DH's childhood buddies. (They do this at every friend's wedding. They pic a song the day off, sit the bride down in the middle of the room, and sing to her. They chose MJ's "The Way You Make Me Feel" for me. It was AWESOME.)
@bakerella: I am drooling over that gazpacho. I just fell in love with your tree! This is a fun thread!
@Theresa90405: I love the ferris wheel!! how fun! And your dress is so pretty. I like that it's not a traditional floor length. And I totally have a thing for polka dots!
What a brilliant thread idea! Keep em coming ladies.
I'll have to wait until I'm home to do this so I can do the photo part!
@bakerella: I LOVE those centerpieces! So creative!
This was really hard. I have so many favorites! I love the picture of my parents walking me down the aisle. And the picture of our officiant announcing us as husband and wife makes me so happy everytime I look at it. We both were so giddy throughout the entire ceremony.
@mmsva: What a fun post! I love love LOVE your boutonnieres they are so different and beautiful.
@bakerella: Love that tree your friends made for you it's beautiful! I wanted to do something like that for my escort cards but lost the will to do it a couple months before the wedding LOL. The escort cards just sat on a table :-( - boring yet functional.
@Theresa90405: I love your short dress it is so fun and you look beautiful in it!
Picture of us:

My favourite thing of all for the day was my pink crinoline peaking out from under my dress:

Our Toronto Maple Leaf themed garter toss. Mr. M dressed up in his hockey gear, TML jersey and got the garter while the old Hockey night in Canada theme song was playing. And as a surprise to him the garter was TML themed as well!

And finally our first look. This gorgeous park was where our ceremony was supposed to be but the rain forced us to use our back up plan. Luckily we still got our first look pictures done in the park despite the rain.

@Future Mrs. Martin: please use the "upload files from your computer" feature underneath the comment box that add the pictures as attachements. I can't see anything that uses the "insert Image" button that embeds the pictures into the comment box.
I'm missing some great pictures because I cant see them.
@mmsva: sorry - they were already uploaded using the other feature and I am on a different computer so I can't upload them again right now!
Im going to wait until I get home to do this because I dont have any pics on my work computer! But I will go ahead and comment now - by the way, this may be the BEST thread Ive ever seen because its true- everybody wants some comments!
@mmsva: I LOVe the bout and the tie - that orange is an awesome color! The picture of you and your DH at the koi pond is so gorgeous!
@bakerella: That soup looks delicious!! And I love that picture of you and your DH - you guys look so in love
@Theresa90405: First of all, youre gorgeous - you have a beautiful smile. Second how awesome you got to ride a ferris wheel on your weding day!
@jodyblair: I LOVE the picture of you and your officiant laughing together!
@Future Mrs. Martin: Love your pink crinoline and shoes - and the fact that you are on your own bed with that phrase above you! And I love the picture of you guys on the bridge - that is a framer :-)
@mmsva: Sure. I have to rename them all though since I've already uploaded them.
Can anyone see those? I can't!
ETA - Oh, there they are! So there's a bit of the tree all lit up. Hang on, I'll add the rest.
I can see them all just fine Bakerella! that last pic is so precious!!!
So the tree wasn't that BLUE in person. It's just the way it lit up with the camera flash... But anyways, you get the gist of it. Oh hang on, I have one more of the moss and votives at night.
@jodyblair: I love your bouquet!!! That photo of you guys with the officiant is priceless, I love it!
@mmsva Your boutonnieres are beautiful. I love the cord- such a clean look.
Photo #1: Photo of us in a local park.
Photo #2, Favourite #1: Our ring warming. It was such a special part of our day, and it is one of my favourite memories from our wedding day. The photo is of my grandmother warming our rings, and I just love it.
Photo #3, Favourite #2: Photos with our whole families. I love to look at the photos we have of all the different parts of our family, reminds me of all the love that was shown to us that day. This particular photo was a "recreation" of the story of looking at Grandma's hands, and seeing all the love she had in those hands over the years. It's my maternal grandmother's hands, my mom & her 3 sisters, and me and my 3 cousins (so 3 full generations of "loving" hands).
Photo #4, Favourite #3: This photo combines two of my other favourite things- our first dance, and all the kids. I loved our first dance so much, because it was a very special song to us, and I usually have to DRAG my husband onto the dance floor to dance. It was also special because we had created a slideshow of photos of all of the couples and/or families in attendance that played behind us while we danced (the song was Brad Paisley's "Two People Fell in Love", which is all about generations coming together to celebrate the love of 2 people, so the slideshow was very fitting). It was important to us to have a very family-friendly wedding, and there were around 25 children in attendance- and they were awesome! Some of my favourite memories from our reception include them- especially the photos of from our Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances where we invited all the F/D's and M/S's in attendance to join us.
It's official, I'm not gettting anything done at work today!
@jodyblair--Everytime I scroll passed the laughing photo with your officiant, I get a big goofy grin on my face; you can feel just how happy you guys are!
@bakerella-- So beautiful! I love the contrast between the silver teapots and weathered wood underneath them. I would have never thought to do that. Did you have to carry all those rock (around the tree)? I hope you were able to set up the day before! And what can I say about your colored shoes?! I heart colored shoes and wedding dresses!!!!
@mrsjesse: I love the ring warming photo and ceremony! I was at a wedding in the fall where they did it and it was the first time I had heard of it. I thought it was one of the most beautiful wedding ceremonies I had heard of.
@Future Mrs. Martin: OMG, that last pic on the bridge is AMAZING!!! WOW!
So first is my favorite pic of us :)
And my favorite 3 things:
First was my cowboy boots, I LOVE cowboy boots, and here is Texas we were them all the time, esp to country shows, football games, everywhere!
Second, is the dance circle we created, everyone jumped in a circle and my husband starting taking off his tie, I just love how this pic caught him right in the act!
Lastly, was our venue, I love this pic b/c it shows how natural and simple our venue was. I find such beauty in simplicty and our venue was perfect!!
@mrsjesse: The photos are all great, but the one of the kids on the dancefloor is really sweet!
@mmsva: Thanks! The inspiration for the tables came from 100 Layer Cake. DH and his friends carried all the rocks down to fill up what was a giant canoe shaped firepit. Ya, imagine the conversation when you venue calls to say they decided to build a 17' long stone canoe in the middle of your space 2 months before your wedding. Thanks guys! LOL! The plan was to set up the day before the wedding, but the rental company was a huge huge huge huge disaster and our tent didn't get up until Saturday afternoon. Ya. I know. SO the whole tent was decorated in the course of a couple hours while I was completely oblivious getting my hair and make up done with my girls.
@bakerella: Thanks! It really was one of my favourite parts of our wedding day. Everytime I look at our rings, it reminds me of all the love they hold. I have a lot of other photos I love from the ring warming, but was trying to play by the rules:) BUt here's a couple more:
My cousins, "held" our ring warming for us in the lobby. People warmed our rings as they entered, and then were ushered into the seats.; our Pastor "blessing" our rings; and MIL.
@ bakeralla: that tree looked so magical at night. You have incredible friends!
@mrsmartin: We had a Maple Leaf garter too! But we also had an Oilers garter- divided allegiances in our household! They were a hit with all of the guys.
Oh and @bakerella: the last picture of the older woman is beautiful. She looks so filled with emotion, great shot.
@aunt pol: Thanks! They really were awesome to have around. The kids made our wedding so much more special. 4 different little girls told me I looked just like a princess, and 1 of them acutally squealed in delight because she got to touch my dress. Adorable:
@mrsjesse: I decided not to do the ring warming and now you made me regret that decision! The pictures are so sweet and special.
@AnnieAAA: If you scroll through your pictures really fast, it looks like you and your DH are stripping!
I love the pic of you guys looking at each other. You looks so sassy, happy and in love. And I agree that your venue is gorgeous.
@bakerella: here is our cake topper. It's kinda hard to see since the background relect through the "water" in the fishbowl. I've also included a pic from the etsy seller of a closeup of the veil
@mmsva & @Future_Mrs. Martin - Thank you! The short length worked really well for the location. I can't imagine having to walk down the whole length of the pier in a full length gown. It would have gotten torn up!
@jodyblair: Your bouquet is so gorgeous.
@Future Mrs. Martin: Love your pink chrinoline!
@PitBulLover: Thank you! It really was cool riding the ferris wheel that day. We got some great pictures up there. The only thing is...they didn't let us cut in line!! They totally made us wait in the loooong line. Which kind of ate up most of the hour we had for taking pics together around the pier.
@AnnieAAA: You look SO GLAM!! Love your veil, hair & red lipstick.
@mrsjesse: Love the "hands" picture. That is really touching and beautiful.
I love this post, because it made me realize how many things I really loved about our wedding. I worked really hard to make it sentimental, which is one of my fave things about weddings I attend. I kept saying to myself "Oh, I should put this. NO! I should put this. NO!" Hahaha! I guess if I have to choose, my fave things were:
1) Our ceremony. I wrote it myself with input from my husband, and it was very special to us. The entire thing was very personal, and I worked really hard on it!
2) The wedding pictures on our guest tables. We collected as many photos as we could of guests weddings' to put on the tables as a surprise. Unfortunately the picture I can find is of one of the few mismatched weird green frames we had to use, as we ended up with more pictures than frames, and had to pick up a few extremely last minute!
3) Our "first song". Instead of a first dance, we decided to sing a song together. It was a surprise to all but one of our guests (a groomsman in charge of the guitar hiding and sound testing). We attended the same university for music, and it's really important to us.
Other contenders: the bracelet my husband bought me, the place we got our pictures taken beforehand, and our cake/pie table complete with my parents' 1973 cake topper!
