Here is my e-ring with my new shellac mainicure...show off your e-rings with your new shiny polish!!! :)

nail polish will not stay on my nails for even a few hours. so i get acrylics :)

I got a shellac manicure too! My new E-ring! Just engaged a month ago, and I still can't stop loooking at it!
@Alexandria_Lyn: your ring is gorgeous!!! My mom has a similar RHR and i can't wait to wear the as my something blue... I would've been over the moon if she had offered it as an heirloom ring for my e-ring, but she is understandably very attached to it. ;)
Does anyone have much experience with gel nail polish that gets "baked" on with the UV light at the salon? I'm looking into that as an alternative to acrylics and wanted any input on it.
@lilsweetie: The Shellac Manicures that the OP and I are wearing are the "gel" nail polish that you are refferring to! I was engaged 1-1-13, and got my manicure done the day after. The first one lasted about 3 1/2 weeks before it chipped once, and I am now rocking my second coat. The money is so worth it considering the amount of people who will be looking at your hand. They cost about 30 dollars, but if you figure that at least thirty people will look at your hand each month, that's a dollar a person! Not too bad haha.
@sleepyhead22: Thank you! I lucked out because it was a total suprise. My only worry now is finding a wedding ring that will fit good with it!
I absolutely love it though (:
@Alexandria_Lyn: that's about the same price as my acylic nails, so i'm already used to spending that $ :) thanks for the input!
how long does it get done each time? How long do you have to put it under the UV?
My nails are currently bare (as is my finger while my ring is getting resized) but here's my just-engaged mani! We picked out the peridot ring together, and I knew when he was going to propose, so like a dork I looked at a color wheel and chose the complementary color for my nails!
@lilsweetie: It takes about 30 minutes total, including the manicure part. They do four coats at 2 minutes each under the UV light, and it dries instantly. As soon as I got up from the chair, I stuck my hand in my purse to fish around for my keys, and they're still perfect. Also, the great part with getting a light color, or a french, is that you can paint right over it with any regular nail polish, and it looks so shiny and neat. The nail polish will rub right off with some acetone-free nailpolish remover, and leave your gel underneath looking just the same. I'll never get acrylic or a regular manicure agin.
@lilsweetie: they are much better for your nails - much less damage. depending on what system you use (shellac/axxium/opi gel) there is MUCH less filing and those systems keep your nails stronger.
often - with a good tech - the gels are much thinner, and therefore look more realistic right away, and when they begin to grow out. the gels also won't split your nail if you shut one in a door or something! that part of the gel will simply pop off and leave your nail intact!
i used to manage a high end salon and all the clients and techs raved about the gel services :)
I made thiscolour myself by mixing some Essie shades togerger.

and my new fav colour, Modern Love by DL.

@holister: ooo I love your nails!! they look perfect!!
@Alexandria_Lyn: your ring is gorgeous!! I would love to see pictures of it in different lighing does the blue get lighter and darker? its soo pretty
@lilsweetie: I actually got an at home gel kit for christmas this year! Its awesome!! I used to get the gel at the nail salon which was good too but I am OCD about my nails so once it started lifting I would pick at it and when you got it filled you could tell that it was a filling and not a new set. With the at home stuff i find that it lasts just as long and I dont really pick at it for whatever reason. It just takes a few practice times at putting it on right so you get a good seal. If you have more questions feel free to ask :)
Heres my ering with my at home gel nails the little white thing is supposed to be a heart for valentines day!

and with the band I think I am going with:
@bella731: Thank you so much!! And yes it does! Sometimes it's nearly black, other times you can see right through the blue. And, one of my favorite parts is that, in certain light, and at a certain angle, because the sapphire sits higher than the diamons, you can see a tint of blue in the diamonds where the sun passes through.
I never would have thought he'd pick out such a unique ring, because he tends to be a traditional guy!
Honestly though, I've gotten more compliments on my ring from complete strangers than about any item I've ever owned! He did good (:
@bella731: I would LOVE a home kit! what brand do you have and where was it purchased, do you know? I am the kind of person who prefers to do things herself rather than go to a salon if possible :)
I just took this the other day! The sun was making it sparkle like crazy and I just got my nails done. . . Minnie Mouse inspired. =)

@Alexandria_Lyn: It's like Kate Middleton's ring! I love sapphires since it's my birth stone. Beautiful! =)
Thanks!! & yes, It's his birthstone which is why he picked it out. His mother's engagement ring (which she gave to me when she came to visit us about a year ago) was also a sapphire center stone!
All of you ladies have beautiful rings as well!!
@lilsweetie: My mom got mine from harmons, but Ive seens them in cvs also. It red carpet brand and I got the normal LED light, not the portable one (the portable is much cheaper but it runs off of batteries and you need to keep each nail under the light for 3-4 min vs 45 seconds) I like it because its still small enough to carry around if needed- ive also bought some different brand gel polishes and they workd just fine- I did use the red carpet base and top coats tho
This is my current mani- it's a water colour one that I tried on Saturday night for the first time
And this is one that I have on quite a bit. I love colourful, pastel manis
My emerald ring with my matted China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald nail lacquer
i'm loving my current color of nail polish.... Essie's Ladylike! i've had it for like a year and just re-discovered it. ;)
