Hi bees! My SO and I are planning to get engaged soon. My mother recently offered me her engagement ring – a 1 ct. pear with baquette sidestones. I declined for a number of reasons:
1. My sister just got married and my mother gave her and her husband my parents’ gold wedding bands.
2. My father passed away a few months ago and I don’t want my mom to be left without any of her original wedding jewelry even though she doesn’t wear them anymore.
3. I always saw myself with a round stone.
4. I know my SO has been working his butt off to buy me a ring and I don’t want to take that away from him!
So tonight my mom brought her rings out to show to me and I am seriously drooling over it right now! Of course I’m thinking “Hmmm, maybe I could see myself with a pear instead of a round!!” I am touched that she offered, but I’m happy she gets to keep it and also happy to know I will inherit it someday 🙂 This picture does it no justice!! Sorry that it’s sideways!

It is very sweet that your mom offered you her rings and even sweeter that you want her to keep them longer. One day will be the right day for your to take ownership of that and you will know when that day comes and appreciate it even more. You are a good daughter. Plus, your SO will love that you appreciate his efforts.

@MrsZynxy: wow what a beautiful ring! So different, I would rock that for sure

My mom actually bought HERSELF a fairly thick 22 karat gold band (it’s very heavy and very easily scratched/dented) back in the day when they got married. Unfortunately they divorced years ago but she still has the band somewhere. She never had an engagement ring.

It’s gorgeous! My mom has a 2 carat something marquise diamond solitaire in yellow gold. She put it away in her jewelry box two summers ago because she was worried about the diamond falling out after 12 years of wearing it, and didn’t want to take it to a jeweler. She now wears this set from berricle and was worn it since then.

No pics, but my mom wears her simple gold wedding band, her .33 c diamond gold solitaire, and my late dad’s gold band in a stack. 🙂

My mom never got a proper engagement ring until 5 years after she was married and then at 10 years my dad bought her one of those 3 stone forever rings (or whatever they’re called). She’s got really nice rings but I’m not sure if I can get a pic. She never takes them off!

My mom left me her wedding ring as she didn’t have an engagement ring. I had the diamond reset and will probably put an amethyst in her setting and wear it as a right hand ring. I love having an heirloom diamond.

I hope my mom gets one soon! She never had one with my dad, but her and her boyfriend are (hopefully) getting engaged soon. She wants a black diamond.

A blurry picture of my ring and my mom’s ring! Mine is 1 carat, and I think my mom’s is between 2.5-3 (I can’t remember). She just got that wedding band, which is a rose gold eternity band with baguettes.
PS – I’m not a weirdo that puts on her mom’s rings randomly. I put them on my finger along with mine to clean with my new Diamond Dazzle stick without risking them falling down the drain, lol. I can’t find the sparkly “after” shot, so here is the grimey before shot.

@Cummins59: I adore your mother’s setting. I think an amethyst will look so lovely with that tone of gold. Very pretty!
@Fanciful: Your post is so touching! Your mom wearing your late father’s band made me smile. I’m sorry for your loss.

My parents are still married so my mom is still rocking this sucker everyday. Although 30 years ago it was just a solitaire marquise on thin band!
