My bakery didn't do a great job...they didn't do what I asked, but at least it tasted good!
Mine's going to be straight off the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings. Don't tell tho, it's a secret. ^_^ It's just so perfect for our wedding that I had to have it!
Here is mine, hopefully the flowers will be a little more coral colored and not so pink.
OOO Nurseheather30! I love it!!!
liz.smith- You really got butterflies on your cake?! I hope your bakery does it exactly like that cover! It would be cool! :-D
Yeah, you can get the butterflies at Michaels or Hobby Lobby or anywhere, tho I'm getting mine offline to get all the colors. They're on wires that you just stick in the cake. Might make cutting the cake a pain, but I'm also doing cupcakes so hopefully it won't be a big deal. And the lady making it said it won't be any problem to do it just like that. Only difference will be that we're adding a ribbon of fondant at the base of each layer (each one a different color) so that the cake isn't so completely white. I'm excited!
Here is my cake! I designed it myself, with inspiration from Martha Stewart. My favorite part of it was the flavors...the middle tier was white chocolate raspberry, and the top and bottom were coca-cola (chocolate cake soaked in cola). It. was. delicious.
Any Atlanta brides, pm me if you are interested in my baker. She did an excellent job and was affordable too. Her cakes are delicious! She has lots of interesting flavor combinations as well as traditional favorites. I am contriving as we speak how to get my hands on some more coke cake.
Ok for my DW we're not having a formal reception. We just made reservations at a restaurant then after off to a club for dancing. So I wasn't sure we were going to do cake but everyone said for pictures. Then I was thinking I'm afraid we could end up with the old school 80's look and I make good cake so I'll just make a small one myself...My fiance was very supportive... so personal too, he said; so I did my cake trial along with my make-up trial (another post..lol) this weekend. Ready for a laugh????
Not making my wedding cake apparently it requires a talent I don't possess! It was a good time and laugh for us though!
Had cupcakes for me, and a little cake for the husband. Sneaky little Filipino ladies stole cupcakes from the back of the cupcake tree before we even cut the cake! Strangely, I didn't get to eat any of it.
rnc 620- Thanks yummy too but sooo not worthy of pictures!
Now I'm wondering there's a Costco over there (Puerto Rico) should I just get one of those Chocolate 2 layer round cakes and put flowers on top? I'm just caught up with the $$ on a cake for 17 of us, when I didn't think it was even that important?
Here is mine! I didn't even care about having a cake, but it came with the venue. We ended up doing a cake tasting on a whim and I had ZERO ideas about what I wanted it to look like before we met with the baker, but we figured it out on the spot and it was crazy delicious. White cake with 7 layers and alternating ganache and berry compote (not Jam) in between. Soooooo tasty.
Oh and the topper was a present my husband gave me on our 4 year dating anniversary, thinking it was a sweet gift before our wedding. Little did we know it was a cake topper until we saw the same one sitting on the shelf at the bakery!!
Cake wasn't high on my priority list, so I actually went through a local region chain grocery store with a great bakery.
I sent the decorator so photos and told her what color and she did the rest.
It was supposed to be red velvet, but the bakery screwed it up (it was nothing like at the tasting) it was basically chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse and truffle filling with buttercream frosting! But people liked it.
@TMarie- We don't want to spend a lot of money on cake either. Neither of us are big cake eaters anyway. We are going to do a few single teir cakes along with some other deserts on a table. I think we'll save money by going simple but we'll still have some sweets for our guests :)
I loved the way our cake looked, but unfortunately our she sacraficed taste for design. It did NOT taste the way it did at our tasting... but oh well.
We didn't spent alot on our cake, $200 for the three tier cake, cupcakes for the kids table and two car grooms cakes. While the cake lady was delivering our cakes she almost got into an accident which totally destroyed one of the car cakes. She had to go back and fix the cake and the other car cake which turned out okay. It wasn't exactly what we wanted but it still tasted great!
@janna - I love your cake...the color & the flowers (daisies? I want a daisy theme) are beautiful.
@liz.smith -- I love that cake so much too! I'm still considering having butterflies on mine, but I haven't decided for sure.
I want our cake to be pretty, but what's most important to us is that it TASTE good. One of my fiance's very few wedding-related requests so far has been for a chocolate cake, so we're having chocolate cake. Our baker apparently makes an amazing fudge icing to go with this cake. Initially I said we'd have to come up with another idea, because I was determined not to have a brown cake, but I've been giving it more thought and am leaning toward the chocolate icing. (Our baker doesn't use fondant, which is fine with me because I really don't like it.) Who says you can't have a brown wedding cake? I think it could still be pretty.
Am I dreaming?? ;)
Taye not at all weird to have a brown cake, I think it could be very beautiful! My pink mess of a cake above was White Chocolate with raspberry filling and the smaller top was lemon with white chocolate fudge filing. Point is don't forget Chocolate comes in different colors!
@tmarie - if I made a cake that looked (YES I am serious) as good as yours, Mr Happily would bust out a huge glass of milk & have at least the top layer devoured in 2 minutes!!! I love to "collect" recipes, alas I do not actually bake or cook...but they all go into my box o'recipes...for someday when I feel like getting up the nerve to actually try :)
Such beautiful cakes! I went a more simple route by ordering from my favorite bakery in Chinatown. The cake is a very light white cake (almost like angelfood) with a stawberry and bavarian cream filling. The frosting is whipped cream. The cake was $180 including the $50 delivery fee.
Oh you should definitely surprise him and have a cake happilywaiting when he gets home...lol
Since the cake was to be done at the Villa when we get to Puerto Rico, I was going for super easy and I found out on a (wait don't laugh too hard) Duncan hinds bakers blog that you could take any box cake and mix it up!
White box cake turned White Chocolate by changing oil to melted butter, water to full fat milk, and then adding to the mix 3oz melted white Chocolate chips just before you pour in the pan! Filling was fresh raspberrys and seedless jam. Frosting can, add cool whip and the rest of the white choc. chips(melted) to it!
You should try it!
I made a fake cake out of styrofoam to display and we had the kitchen cut a sheet cake to serve our guests:
I love all the pictures!! So much inspiration!! Now if only we could decide what we want! haha
@happilywaiting - thanks! I think we ripped it off from a Martha Stewart pic the baker had, and just inverted the colors. I really loved our bakery, they did exactly what we discussed and the cake still tasted amazing!
@tmarie - I'm going to try that!!! I made pancakes last night (for the first time & it was Pancake Tuesday) & they "tasted" great but umm...didn't look so pretty LOL
Ours turned out exactly as I wanted. Crisp lines and I had the florist add two cala lilies taht were the same as in my bouquet to the top. It was delicious too! We had two flavors, white cake with raspberry filling for me and chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling for my husband.
i really, really, really loved our cake. The hotel had a famous chef that makes cakes (for a good price too) so we went with him. I sent a few pictures and told them to combine them -- and the result was better than I ever imagined. Our florist brought in the flowers and everything worked out perfect (Thank God). Not to mention, it tasted DELICIOUS! the top and middle layers were chocoloate with cherries and the bottom was vanilla with strawberries... YUM! everyone loved it! :)
A spice cake with creamcheese buttercream frosting and hazelnut ganache filling. The inspiration was yet another Martha Stewart.
This is what we want ours to look like! Flavor-wise we're still deciding but I know I want at least one layer to be carrot cake (mmm tasty!)
This was our super yummy cake--vanilla cake with strawberry filling on the bottom and then strawberry cake on the second 2 tiers.
kara - That looks like kinda what we are going to have! But ours will be chocolate haha
@TennisSML5: End of Summer/beginning of Fall. But I was going for a more fall theme so thank you for noticing that . . . that made me feel great!
