I need to find the right cover-up. So far I've purchased a chiffon cardigan from j crew but I think it will be too long. I love all of your options but I think I need something a little more casual and sweater-y. I am hounding Nordstrom Rack, TJMAXX, Loehmanns, Marshalls, Anthropologie, and J Crew for options.
@angelas-- I couldn't find an image of your dress, but based on what you said, I found this at BlueFly. It's less than $50!
@Docgirl-I love those caplets! They are so fashionable! I am getting married on January 2, 2010 and I am thinking about wearing one of those 'capes' that would cover my dress totally-just incase it might be snowy. I am having my wedding in Iowa, and we have some bad winters. I wouldn't mind there being snow on the ground for my wedding, I would love it actually. I would just prefer that I wouldn't snow ON my wedding day or the day before it!
@ Miss Bliss- I love the idea of having a cape or shawl to cover up!
Here's a pic (1st one in gallerie 2) that I love:

Here are some great vintage reproduction shawls, capes, and jackets:

and I'm searching for that image of the winter bride in a knitted shawl that came out on one of the blogs this year, but I can't seem to find it... Do you know the one I'm talking about?
@drgirl.. I love all of your choices. They are so fun! Especially the third one, but I'm a little vintage at heart. They all seem really cool though (i mean degree wise..haha) Do you think they'll do the trick of keeping you warm?
As far as matching your dress, which I love by the way, I think you are going to have to consider color. In the pics of your dress I thought it looked a little champaign-ish so I would think the first two would clash. I love the third as I said but it might cover up that great tulle detail at the top of your dress. I think the 4th may be best (and it's super fun looking) assuming again that next to each other he colors aren't horrid.
... or I might b compeletely off on my color memory.... wouldn't be the first time my short term memory failed me..haha.
OOOOHHHH Doctorgirl! I love the first and third. Tres chic!
Me? I have no idea yet if I'm going to need one or not. But I have a few ideas if need be.
I am wearing this stretch lace thing I found on ebay. I'm not in love with it... I think the lace is kinda generic looking and it might match my grandma's curtains, but it comes in my size (2X), it is 3/4 sleeve, I didn't want short sleves, and it is not opaque, which were my requirements. Plus, it's only $44. If you guys have any other affordable suggestions that I can get in Plus size, by all means, let me know!
@rnc- Yeah, they probably won't be the warmest... but it will be July, and hopefully we'll be getting our dance on! I think this etsy vendor can make the shrug to match your colors. She makes most of them custom for people. So we could choose the color together.
@bellenga- would love to see your ideas!
@Llaurra- I think that is beautiful. It reminds me of lace from 1950's and 60's Catholic weddings! I don't know if I could top that!
I'm wearing a cropped leather jacket for my "just married" pictures on our scooter
Dr Girl, that sweater is so cute. I will have to check out bluefly, too!
@llaurra - I think it's super cute. simple and beautiful. ...but if you think it's boring maybe you can spice it up. you could dye it, tea stain it, or maybe even add some beading or a giant amazing broach or flower. If you think it's generic then make it your own!!
Doctorgirl - your dress is insanely fabulous!!!!! I love the 1st one & the 3rd....#4 is very "haute couture" looking...but I don't know if it would actually provide any "little bit of warmth"....can't wait to see which ever one you pick with your dress!
@lena- all of the shrugs I pictured are from etsy seller Holly Stalder. I highly recommend her and am thrilled with how my custom shrug turned out!
I had a shawl that we spent time picking out ... and then i never put it on! We were dancing fools and didnt even notice when it got cold.
DG,
I love the third one! The vintage touches are beautiful. I would kind of love to have a matching bolero for my vintage dress, but I don't think I could find a perfect match. I do have a beautiful shawl from Morocco that I might use if it gets cold, but it's not white. What do you think, would it be at all weird for the bride to have a red shawl to cover up?
Mandy- I don't think that would be weird at all... especially if you have red shoes (like I did). Have you posted a picture of your dress? Just wondering, I'd love to see it!
DG - I haven't posted one yet, but I may soon. My seamstress is delivering it today! Sooooooo excited!!!! (as you may notice by the number of exclamation marks)
I would love to wear a white fur shawl since I will be having a winter wedding but I doubt I could afford it.

I'm getting married in the mountains, so it might get chilly atnight-- even in July. I didn't even think about this, but luckily one of my friends did. Now my friend and I are thinking about a shrug or a caplet or a cardigan.
Here are a few that I've found online that I like. But I realize that this is a little talked about part of our attire.
So what are you wearing as a cover-up? Or what did you wear? Are you wearing one at all? Any of these that I've shown you that you like better than the others? (keep in mind that my dress is the Sophia Tolli Dolce)
