I am not a huge fan of favors.  As a guest, I always leave them behind, or throw them out after the wedding (I know, I know....).  So for our wedding, since we're having a ton of catered desserts, I decided to have the wedding cake boxed and given as favors.  I love cake!

Yeah, thanks, I hope people will take them.  I mean, it's not really an added "expense" this way, because we were getting a wedding cake regardless.   What are you considering for yours?  I did get plain crystal salt and pepper shakers once.  Those were okay.  I am a big fan of the edible favors though, candy apples was a good one.  I have to say, I really dislike anything with a picture, or engraving of the couple.  I probably like them, but I don't want a utensil with their wedding date on it in my kitchen forever.  Or worse, a picture frame.

I'm all for functional favors!  We are having a photobooth, so part of the favor will be a frame for their photo-strip.  The other portion will be the dessert buffet.  I'm providing gable boxes for them to fill with their chosen goodies...cupcakes, caramel apples, pumpkin spice donuts, maple sugar candy, buckeye candies and other assorted candies.

I think your guests are going to love the wedding cake favor! It's such a great idea because you never get enough cake when you go to a wedding -- at some weddings I've missed it all together -- and that is one of the highlights. :) Very creative, VirginiaMarie.

@Magenta: I replied to one of your other posts about favors with some ideas/photos.

we're not doing favors. I can't justify spending money on something people usually throw away. Instead we're taking the money we would have spent and donating it to a charity.

I absolutely love it! Everyone should play more. As a very playful person and avid puzzler and gamer, I would be thrilled to get the dominos.

Game-related, but not thread related, I just noticed that one of my wedding games is on the front page of craftgawker.com right now!! I'm so excited!!

We're going for functional favors, too. We're getting married in the Northwest, where huckleberries (a yummy purple berry - my favorite!) grow....so my in-laws hand-picked gallons upon gallons of them in the mountains last summer and froze them. We spent Thanksgiving making 180 jars of huckleberry jam, and my mom is making cute little jar labels. It was super inexpensive (less than $150 for everything) and SO delicious - it will share a little piece of our home with our OOT guests.

I'll upload pics if I can find them!

We were thinking of doing a Masquerade themed reception.  If we do that, we'll be giving out masks as favors so the guests don't have to bring their own.

    Here's mine!

We had an enormous wedding, so I made these on the cheap..I ordered the bags (I think they were $4 for 1000 of them), the labels are 1.5" round labels and I made the design on them and printed them, and the chocolates are Wilton's candy melts that I made in molds.

We're doing mini mason jars filled with jellybeans. Also, our Photobooth will print two copies of each photo strip. One for the guestbook and one for guests to keep.

We are also doing a donation.  But instead of just giving everyone a mini piece of paper saying we donated or making an announcement I am putting together little boxes and inside the boxes will be one of those awareness bracelets for Alzheimer's ($5.99 for 5) and the money goes to the association for research, and little red awareness ribbons for the heart association.  Those are our 2 charities since both FI and I's grandparents died from either heart disease and Alzheimer's.

No favors for me.  I keep thinking that maybe I should get them, but then I think that I'll need to find at least $100 just laying around...and that's not going to happen with our budget.  :)

It's tough because you don't want it to be over the top expensive, yet you don't want them to toss it out.

It seems like a lot of people are doing the charity.  I really like the idea, but we already ordered ours.  Glass photo coasters here: http://www.beau-coup.com/glass-photo-coasters.htm

Each person gets a set of two, one with our photo in it, and the other will serve as a name placement.  Hopefully, the guests will want to keep it if they can replace the photo with their own. :)

Here are ours!  Three Ghirardelli chocolate squares in hand-stamped muslin favor bags.  I blogged about hand-stamping 415 of them here.

@Magenta - thanks!  The bags were pretty reasonably priced from this etsy seller - I think they ended up being about 21 cents apiece, including shipping.  Can't wait to see what you decide on!

My MOH gave me the idea to put potpourri into little shimmery organza pouches... I was thinking of doing some in Fuchsia and some in turquoise....

I haven't figured out the total cost for about 80-100 but I think it's a great idea!

    @thefuturemsgibbs:

I think that your favor looks adorable, and I would love to tuck it into my lingerie drawer.  However, I just hope that all of your guests would enjoy them.  I'm just thinking that it's more of a female gift, so I fear the men won't make use of them.  I always say that edible favors are the best way to go.   It's a very cute idea, you could also use it for a shower favor.

I'm just doing a candy buffet.  Mostly pinks with some purples too.   My first idea was to do an iced cookie in a cake shape wrapped in a clear bag with ribbon.

@Jennybird A candy buffet sounds like a good idea. Is it an expensive favor? Are you going to make them personalized baggies to put their candy in? Or just scoop them out with their hands?
