For a laid-back BBQ, the outfit you described should be just fine. :) Maybe you can dress it up with a nice necklace or something.

While it IS all about you, I'd definitely put a word out about what sort of attire you'll be donning. Where I grew up it's pretty universal that for showers you wear sundresses, nothing FANCY, but def a dress or skirt of some kind. At my bff's (originally from NE but now living in my hometown) shower last summer, everyone there was in casual spring dresses and heeled sandals, and she was in capris, a tshirt and casual sneakers. Sure, the party was about her, but it wasn't the 15 guests that looked out-of-place. Just a word of warning! You can make it whatever you want, but make sure it's universally known!
I'd ask the people hosting it. Not that it really matters, its your shower, you can rock whatever you want! If its an outdoor BBQ, I'd wear a simple summer dress and some cute flats (flats because you don't want heels to dig into the grass nor do you want to ruin the heel by getting grass stains on them!). But that's just me. I had my shower at a banquet hall and I was by far the most dressed up one, but who cares? I wore a bright colored dress and platforms with kick ass jewelry.
I would ask you mom what she is wearing to get a better idea. But since it is a special day for you I would suggest wearing a casual sundress. I wear sundresses to BBQ all the time in the summer so I don't think you would be overdressed.

Help! my shower is in a few weeks ( i don't know the date, just the weekend) and I'm confused... am I supposed to wear a dress? Is there a certain look I am supposed to obtain? Like... can I just wear capri's and a nice shirt and shoes? It's going to be a laid-back BBQ at my mom's house.
