Well, as I'm addicted to Burt's Bees lipbalm and B&BW hand sanitizer...that's what I voted for. Lol.
Given your age selected though, I imagine the jam/jelly might go over better.
Thinking that most of the people attending are slightly older and you don't know them that well, I would probably go with something edible. I think bath products tend to be over gifted, even though I love them. I hosted a shower and we did coffee/tea favors, we had almost none left so people definitely liked them.
I love your idea of something from Burt's Bees! Their products are phenomenal and I definitely think it would be a crowd pleaser!
I just re-read and noticed the age group... perhaps, as redhead46 mentioned, the jam may go over better for those guests...
Blah, Bath & Body Works.
Go for Burt's Bees if you want to do some sort of beauty product.
I say go for something edible. As stated above, I love hand lotions/bubble bath but I have tons and some people are sensitive to fragrances. Along with the age group as well, I chose something edible. Jams/chocolate or someone mentioned tea/coffee (I love that idea) Good luck!
We did a variety of different scents of Bath and Body works hand sanitizers, soaps, and candles for the prizes... I am a wine drinker so we did wine toppers for the favor... But all of your options seem nice- I would like to go to your shower!!
I'm not a fan of bath and body works because I get sooo many bath/soap products I can't even use them all.
Love the burts bees idea!
I like chocolates.
I like Bath & Body and Burts Bees but a lot of people are very specific about scents that they like and don't like.
This has been helpful, thank you ladies!
My mother chose the edible route -- Godiva chocolates. I think she really liked the Burt's Bees idea, but as some of you pointed out, we women can be very particular about colors/scents/products. At least with the candy they can share if they don't eat it or swap for a different flavor with another shower-goer.
And in fact, it goes well with my gift to the co-hostesses (the new Godiva dessert truffles).
I really hope they all like what we got them!

Our wedding shower is coming up, and my mother is doing the favors (the co-hostesses are doing everything else). She asked for suggestions, and I gave her quite a few, but she can't seem to decide. It needs to be either edible or useful, preferably less than $5 per person, fairly small, but very high quality.
The majority of the attendees are over 50 years of age, mostly childless or with adult children, and don't know me well. There is no "theme," and for obvious reasons it should be as universally appealing as possible.
I've added a poll, but here's what I suggested to my mother:
Mini Stonewall Kitchen jams (hand-wrapped in fabric)
Burt's Bees lip balm or hand cream
Small box of gourmet chocolates
Bath & Body Works travel-sized product
Any other suggestions? We're avoiding anything too personal or personalized since these aren't people we know very well.
