I know you aren't supposed to open and use wedding gifts but what about shower gifts?

    What did you do?

Yes, these are gifts I got at the shower, which was before our wedding.  I've heard you aren't supposed to use wedding gifts before the wedding but what about shower gifts?

I don't really know anything ettiquite wise about this but I say; if they give it to you early; go for it. As far as shower gifts; why would there be gifts if they weren't meant to be used? I say use them. I guess I don't really know on this one. I just don't see why not i guess. Hmm...

i feel like we'll use ours. i don't have room to store all of that stuff, and i'll be way too impatient and excited to use it all.

We did.  We would have zero room in our tiny apartment to store everything anyway.  Accordign to my mom, it's no big deal.

I think it's totally fine! They are shower gifts, not wedding gifts!

Since we don't live together yet, I probably will fight the urge to open most of them. However, if I get my KitchenAid for my shower...you better believe that bad boy is getting opened asap! :) I say, to each their own. If you wanna do it, open 'em up!

You almost always open the shower gifts at the shower.

As for wedding gifts, I don't really see the point in waiting to use the silly things.  I mean knives?  Might as well get those puppies to work!  It seems silly to me to wait to open wedding presents until after the wedding too.

I will use any gifts I get when I get them! My apartment is not a storage unit. ;)

I'll be using everything as soon as I get it.  A) I don't think the gift giver wants the gift just sitting there waiting until some magical time when it's ok to us it.  B) how would they know anyways.

I was planning on not using them, but the people that have sent them have insisted we open them and start using (FI's parents sent a waffle maker & one of my bridesmaids sent us a totally awesome iPod clock radio).

Unpack them now! Otherwise, think about all the crap you have to unpack LATER! We had enough wedding gifts...24 more items to put away would have been a big pain in the rear!

We opened and used our shower gifts, mostly because we didn't have room in our apartment to store them otherwise.  Our shower wasn't too far in advance of our wedding (about 6 weeks out), but I didn't think it was a big deal.
