hmm. that's tough. Can you ask about possible allergies? Because I know that I LOVE jellies and applebutter. But the pearls are very pretty!!
I suppose I could have the FMIL ask her ladies about allergies. Just wondering if I'd be cutting it too close...that shower is May 22.
I vote for the wines. It's simple and quick and fairly universal. If one of them doesn't drink wine, I'm sure someone in their immediate family does. I think 14 hostesses is overkill - don't overextend yourself with thank you gifts when there are that many people, a small simple gift should be sufficient. If there were one or two hostesses for each party and one of them was your sister or best friend, then I'd say spend a little more and put some more thought into it. In your situation, I'd choose the wine, which most people will love.
Jewelry is always a matter of taste, but everyone loves free booze, esp wine! When it comes to gifts, when in doubt go for booze :)
Thanks ladies...the wine is only around $2.50 each (with customized free labels) so I may have to add a little something with it.
You can make homemade bath salts, put it in a wine glass wrapped in cellophane and give them that with the wine.
Ok...update: I work on an army base and just found out that I cannot bring alcohol on base (something I probably shouldn't have known). Anyway, so I have to scratch that idea for the 4 co-workers. From the votes, looks like the jelly/applebutter is the back-up plan for them.
You can still make homemade bath salts. I am making it for all of my ladies as part of their gifts. It's really simple.
I disagree with BrideMegan. A gift should not replace a heartfelt thank you. Sure, it is time consuming to write 14 thank yous, but these hostesses are spending time on your showers, so you must thank them!
I love giving hostess gifts!! Some of my favorite gifts to give are themed baskets that reflect the hostess's personality and hobbies. One of my hostesses is a baker, so I filled a basket full of little baking tools, gadgets, kitchen towels, recipes, and a gift card to her favorite store. You could do the same thing with movies or games or gardening or beauty products. Anything really.
I also wrote a blog post on hostess gifts a while back. It has some of my favorite gift ideas: http://runninglawyer.blogspot.com/2009/10/gift-guide-hostess.html
Good luck!
I am planning on having flowers delivered to my MOH's house (who is hosting it at her house) the day before. My one BM is also helping with everything so I will probably gift her some wine also.
FMIL called yesterday and said I shouldn't do the wine favors as it might offend some of the hostesses. So, I guess I'll use the homemade jelly instead.
I had decided to go with the homemade jellies and apple butter as my hostess gifts and my mom was going to help me make them, but her house burned down and she lost everything. So I had to scratch that idea and come up with something else in a hurry. I made an Alchemy request on Etsy and here are the main contenders:
Sterling silver filigree leaf necklace (I know it's earrings pictured, but the artist assured me he could do necklaces):

Sterling silver bird and colored pearl necklace:

Pocket mirrors:

Sterling silver initial necklace:

Gift box with bath goodies:

Others:
* 8" wood cutting board
* Goody bag with choc dipped pretzel rods, mini truffles, and chocolate peanut butter filled cookies.
* Waist aprons
Keep in mind that I am buying for 16 women (that I don't know) between the ages of 40 and 60. I can't do the wine favors from the previous posts because my FMIL feared some women may be offended and I'm not going to do the pearl studs as I'm not sure if all women have pierced ears.

I am having 2 wedding showers: one from co-workers (4 hostesses) and one from my future MIL's friends (10 HOSTESSES...whom I don't even know)...that's right a total of 14 ladies! Does anyone have any good suggestions for nice, inexpensive hostess gifts? I was considering making jellies and applebutter, but am unsure about possible allergies. I have also considered white pearl stud earrings or miniature bottles of wine. Which would you prefer?
