I would definitely invite FIs family and your FIs stepmom as well. Yes, it might be a little awkward, but they will appreciate the invite. Also, I dont think they will feel obligated to come - those who want to will and those who dont want to make the trip wont!

My godmother (mom's sister) is throwing my bridal shower in April, and has asked for a guest list. I've got my mom and sister (who is the MOH and only attendant), all my aunts, all my girl cousins, FMIL, FSIL and FMIL's sister.
Godmother, and most of my family live 8 hours away from me. The In-Laws live another 5 hours on the other side of them (so we're meeting in the middle). The guest list right now is predominantly local family; only a few friends live near my aunt. And I'm not sure if I should add FI's family members, since they live 5 horus away. I don't want them to feel obligated to lose an entire weekend for a shower!
Also, FI's parents are divorced. I'm close with his mom, but not his step mom. But step mom is the kind to feel slighted if she's not invited. I'm not sure she'd come... how to handle?
TIA!
