I'll bite... I had a crazy train in an outdoor setting... and it was phenomenal!
this is mine, I am on a stool in the picture, but we are not altering the length of the train at all, just the front of the dress for my height. They said mine is a chapel train, though I think it's technically a cathedral by the 5' designation.
@Mrs. DG -I would love to see pics of your train at your outdoor wedding! SOunds gorgeous!
Sorry, it took forever to re-size into a usable size... Still pretty big!
Hmm, I don't think cathedral is only 5' long. Mine is described as chapel, here's a pic (and that is not me, LOL):
The back of my dress is one of my favorite parts. I love it.
It's hard to tell from this picture but the back has buttons that run all the way from the top to the bottom. The lace veil is heirloom, they didn't quite match but close enough.
I'm not sure of the exact length of my train, but it's pretty long, and it's considered a chapel train. I love my Maggie!
Might as well post mine too, since I keep coming back here to look at everyone's elses trains LOL.
My dress hasn't arrived yet, but here is a pic from trying on the sample.
And one from another poster.
@honeybun: Where did you get your dress? What is it called...etc.etc..? I like it.
Mine seemed a little long looking back,, even though it was just a chapel, I def wouldn't want to drag it around all night if it was any longer,, But i think it is just what you like and doesn't really matter either way!
This was my second choice gown....and my favourite part of it was the train!!
Its an Enzoani Diana!!
A long time ago I said I would NEVER have a train - but then when it cam time to go dress shopping I wanted a small chapel train but as you said dress shopping throws you for a loop.
This is what I ended up with and I absolutely LOVE it!

Here's mine, when I looked it up it says it's a chapel length. I would have had a hard time managing one much longer. And my bustle ended up not being able to hold the weight the whole night anyways. When I tried on the dress though, and looked back and saw how beautiful the train was, that's when I knew it was the dress for me :)
Everyone's dresses are gorgeous!
@honeybun: Thanks! I can't wait to wear it!
@buttercup: I know what you mean about looking at the back and knowing it was the one. I had the same moment. Everything about it was perfect.
I have a cathedral train and it is huge i'm a little worried about it but i know they can make it detachable so im not to worried.
Here's mine. I think it was classified as a 'sweep' train. Only about less than 2 feet had to be bustled up to make it floor length.
Don't have a pic of me in yet, but this what it will look like!! It's surprisingly long, with the way it's shaped in the front!

My dress has a 6 1/2 foot train. I didn't even notice trying it on cause it's silk and feels really lightweight. Never thought I'd have this much dress, but I love it!
Here's mine :D It feels longer when i actually wear the dress and i never thought i'd even have a train at all, but i love it!

Heres mine, it was the Aurelie by Maggie Sottero. The back of the dress was my favorite part!!! It was a chapel length train but I dont know how long exactly.
Oh my goodness, thank you gals so much! I love seeing so many beautiful trains, there is just something about the train that made me feel like I'm really doing this, I'm really getting married! Plus, I love how classic they look, but yet you can add your own taste to it because they are all so different and unique.
Mrs DG: Wow! That is a phenomenal train!
Mermaid1082: For some reason your picture isn't showing up for me, but I would love to see your train!
Samisomsam: I am always in awe of the brides who want to make a statement with a bold color in their dress! It's so eye catching!
PeytonL79: I love the illusion sleeves in your dress and the train is so soft and feminine!
Jelly Bean 25: Love how the detail runs through your train, very elegant!
hotchildinthecity: The back of your dress is so pretty. Mine has an illusion back too! I also love the sheerness of your train, it all goes together to well!
bvig: You looked stunning! And, how sweet about the veil. I love it!
Beatlebeauty: Great shot! I love the detail on your train, so elegant!
Dec09bride: Wow, that is the train of all trains! Everyone is going to be in awe over your train!
MsLight: Aw, your train is so delicate, sweet and feminine, but also makes a significant statement. I love it, especially how the buttons go all the way down. It's so pretty!
MissAsb: You looked great on your wedding day! You totally pulled off the train!
Honeybun: That dress is so flattering on you and the train is just so soft and feminine looking!
FutureMrsReed: Wow! I can't wait for you to get your dress! I would love to see more of it!
Lesanna06: You totally rocked that dress! Also, thanks for the encouragement! It's hard for me to see myself getting married in any other dress and at the end of the day that is what counts!
Fowler2Be: Pretty dress! What was your first choice?
Future Mrs Martin: Ah, a girl after my own heart! That dress looks amazing on you! It's perfect! You really encouraged me to just go for it if makes you happy, so thanks! It's better to be glowing and loving your dress than to choose one that is simply a safe bet.
Buttercup: Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! I'm starting to wonder if mine is more chapel than cathedral, at least it looks that way from these pictures. You totally picked the right dress, I think it looked stunning!
JenniRae: Aw, love that shot! I'm planning on having mine bustled to floor length too, so it won't be out all night just for the ceremony.
Officebride: Love your dress! Mine is similar in the fact that it's a lot of dress for the way the front looks, but the back just makes it pop! Great choice!
MissDamask: Such a gorgeous dress! I love it! Your picture was so helpful! My dress is silk as well and just like you said it doesn't feel heavy at all. Your train just brings your dress to the next level, it's so sophisticated!
MrsMoonbaby: I'm glad you can relate. Once I tried a dress with a train, I was sold! You are going to look great in that dress!
Naangel55: Wow, your dress is so commanding! I love that feature. It looks like you had an outside ceremony and were able to pull it off amazingly well. That gives me hope! Did you stand on a platform or just have the dress fanned out on the ground? Just curious on how I can get this to work.
Keep the pictures coming, they are so amazing to look at!
I was the same.. I didn't want a train at all! but I fell in love :)
My train ....

I think I have fallen (okay, okay, I'm totally smitten) with a dress that has a semi-cathedral train. It measures out to be around 60 inches or 5 feet long starting from the back of my waist. I think I'm still in shock that I might be sporting a longish train at my wedding, I totally thought I was a teeny-tiny train bride, but wedding dress shopping really throws you some curve balls! Since falling for this dress, I'm starting to get nervous about the size of the train and I think I might be blowing its length out of proportion. It would be such a help if anyone would be willing to post pictures of their beautiful dresses that have trains, along with the length of the train. I think seeing some "real life" pictures will help me get a better perspective, and better determine if this look can really be pulled off for an outside ceremony and reception. Thanks soooo much!
Also, does anyone have a resource on the go-to-guide about wedding train lengths? I've "Googled" it, but it seems each site classifies the lengths differently. For example, one site lists a "chapel train" extending out to five feet, while another site claims a five foot train to be cathedral length. Then another site will say a chapel train ends at four feet, and a cathedral starts at 7 feet. It's so confusing! I know the "classifications" don't really matter all the much, but I'm curious! Any 411 on this would also be good!
Okay, please post away! Thanks again!
