I am so excited – this is my very first post on WeddingBee. After stalking the site for a few months and seeing everyone’s gorgeous rings and wonderful wedding advice, I am officially a bride-to-be! So excited to begin the planning process and most of all, to marry the man of my dreams in a little less than a year!
I joined My Fitness Pal a few months ago, and have been really lazy with it. It’s time to kick it up into high gear! My goal is to lose about 10-15 pounds, and become more lean/toned.
Is anyone out there using MFP with success? I would love to hear your success stories of shredding for the wedding!

Hi mandksayido, congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the Bee. I downloaded MFP two weeks after having my (first) baby. I think it’s brilliant. Really makes you accountable for what goes in your gob! For me I found the first week or two quite hard – getting my body used to less food – but once I’d adjusted it was fine.
I lost 35lbs using MFP. I don’t know offhand what the timeframe was. I was going for slow, steady and permanent. And I’m still using it now for maintenance and it’s great for that too. You know the way people say that losing weight is the easy part, keeping it off is the hard bit? Well it is soooo easy to underestimate how much you’re eating (especially if you’re in a ‘I’m not dieting anymore’ headspace) so MFP keeps you on track and accountable. I’ve kept it off for over a year now.

I signed up to MFP a year ago (pre-engagement) as I was about twenty pounds heavier than I wanted to be. Between September and March I lost twenty five pounds and transitioned off MFP to see if I could maintain without it. I’ve actually just started using it again as I’d put about eight pounds back on over our our winter (I’m in Australia) and a recent holiday. It works for me, as Mrs Daly said it does take a bit of adjusting but once you’re in the swing of it it’s great. The only thing I would say is that you HAVE to be precise – weigh all solid food and measure all liquids exactly. Feel free to add me – I’m kiwitechgirl on there 🙂

mandksayido: We’re in the same boat! I’m getting married in September 2015 and want to lose at least 10 lbs before. I just got a Fitbit Flex and am using it with MFP and am hoping I’ll get some good results!

I signed up on MFP 2 years ago (before enagement) and I have lost 163 lbs using it. It’s super easy to use amd I loved being able to see all of the numbers and the motivation and encouraging words from others. I recommend getting a food scale and weigh everything. It may take a little while to adjust, but it’s awesome and can make a huge difference! You can add me on MFP if you would like: xxnellie146xx

Congratulations and welcome to the Bee!
I used it before my wedding last year and it is brilliant! You do have to be honest with yourself and log absolutely everything you eat in the right quantities though.
I have been into fitness for quite a few years now and find MFP really helpful as you can also track your macro nutrients on there to get even better healthy results. Especially if you are excercising a lot as well.
I was a fit size 8 in Jan 2013 so didn’t have a lot to loose but still lost an amazing 22 pounds by September by being strict and healthy with my diet and my training.
The most important thing though is not just calorie counting but what the calories consist of making sure you get enough good fat, carbs and protein. If you follow that you will get much better and faster results.

I use it and love it! I found the app last year but fell away from it. I just started up again 2 weeks ago. It’s SO helpful.

mandksayido: I joined MFP in Aug., got a FitBit flex in Sept., and started Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred in Oct.
So far, following MFP and FitBit flex and being 1/2 through 30DS, I’ve lost 10 lbs and went from size 27 jeans to size 25. I have also eliminated muffin top.
Haven’t been perfect and subscribe to sense of doing something is better than doing nothing.

I signed up to MFP about a year ago but only recently started using it properly.
Our wedding is in June 2015 and i’ve already lost 11lbs through exercise alone but I really need to get my eating on track as I’ve still got 25lbs to lose to get to my target and my weight has started to plateau. MFP is great as it really helps you understand what you’re eating and it encourages you to exercise more to earn extra calories! It’s definitely given me the kick up the behind I needed lol
