Hello! I decided for September, I am going to do Jillian Michael's 30 Day shred every day!
I even made myself a sticker chart (because I am essentially a 2nd grader! hahaha!)
I should have posted this a couple days ago, but does anyone want to join me? I started on the first, but even so, if anyone wants to join, we can cheer each other on, and then you;ll just ummm keep going for a few days!
I am also going to use this thread to post about my progress!
Day 1(yesterday): I forgot how hard this DVD is! Thank god it's only 20 minutes! That was the only thing that keeps me going!
Day 2: Woke up this morning SORE! It is almost like I can feel the shape of all my real muscles underneath all the chubs! About to go to the DVD. I know the month is going to be hard, but hopefully at some point I won't be this sore every single day.
@bluegrassbunny - great idea! I've always liked that DVD, and I'm incorporating some levels of it into my September challenge too! I'm doing Jillian's 30 Day Slimdown that she created for ExerciseTV, it's a rotation of Shred, NMTZ and BFBM. Today I have to do BFBM, and I'm not really looking foward to it, since it's my least favorite of the rotation! Good luck today!
@7SEVENJ9: Thanks! I was literally just reading your Ultimate Slimdown thread! When I feel like quitting I am going to read through all of your awesome threads for inspiration!
I don't know how you feel about photos on the internet, but based on all of your kick ass posts, I would LOVE to see your ripped results when you reach your goal! :)
I have my before/after results from Ripped in 30 on my blog, I'll PM it to you since I don't think I can post it here!
I am doing it everyday as well. PAIN!!! I am hoping I will get some results in the next month though. I just want to tone up (especially my arms). I am doing other arm exercises on top of it. My arms are the main thing I am self-concious about! UGH I hate them!
@sunshine1810 - if you are concerned about your arms, I'd recommend Jillian's No More Trouble Zones, it really focuses on the arms. Jillian even says in it "your arms are the part of your body that is naked in front of strangers the majority of the time, so we want those suckers looking HOT!" haha!
@7SEVENJ9: Thank you SO much for the suggestion! I will definitely try that!
I definitely *want* my arms looking HOT, but I think it's going to take a while haha!
@sunshine1890 - it's definitely a great workout, a little longer than the ones in Shred, but it's my favorite Jillian Video to date. Enjoy!
Another plug for Jillian Michaels. I got in shape for my wedding by doing 30 Day Shred, No More Trouble Zones, or 6 week 6 pack every day, combined with enough elliptical time to make a total workout of at least 60 mins/day. My short arms, which always seem chubbier than the rest of me, were slim and defined by my wedding day. I have triceps under that jiggle!
@7SEVENJ9: Jillian always says funny things about getting in shape--I got my friend/BM into her workouts, and we think this line is the best: "People are always telling you, just take the stairs!? That is a FALSE MESSAGE OF LETHARGY, and it isn't doing you any favors!"
@Pomapoo - I love that line too! She's got so many good quotes, cracks me up. I'm about to go do Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism (ugh, i hate it)... wish me luck!
I was going to start 30 day shred today!! Yay for partners.
Are you going to incorporate better eating into your workout? I was thinking about doing the Special K diet. I know its not the healthiest and its not guaranteed to keep the weight off, but I could slim down pretty fast before the wedding.
Now, I'm more motivated to start today! Yay!
@HawaiiBamaBride: Yay workout buddies! (Or as my friend says, Accoutabil-abuddies!)
I have been doing Weight Watchers off and on for about a year. When I really buckle down, I do great! In the last month, I have lost 5 lbs. While not breaking any speed records, I'll take it! So I am going to stick to the Weight Watchers, and dligently track EVERY THING I eat!
I have decided that if I track and shred every single day for 30 days, I should get a prize for myself! I have no clue what it should be! (Well actually, I want it to be a puppy or a ring, but those aren't practical right now! Hahaha!) Anyone have any ideas?
@BluegrassBunny:My friend does weight watchers. Her food is always so delicious. I think 5lbs in a month is great. Slow, but steady progress! :)
I am so sore!! But I'm such a cheater. At one point, I stopped the DVD and just laid on the floor for a good 5 minutes. Jillian Michaels kicks my out of shape booty. Ahh! Gonna be a long next 29 days!
I'm already dreaming of ice cream so that's what my prize would be, but I think you want something of lasting value. Hmm. How about a fun weekend trip? Or a new outfit?
Day 3: I knew my SO's parents were coming in town this weekend to help us do some work on the house we are renting. I KNEW that I wouldn't do the shred while they were here. Apart from not wanting anyone to see me basically DYING in the living room. Once we did a video together and SO's Dad literally sat behind us in the recliner saying "you're not doing it like the girl in the video!" Are. you. kidding. me?! So yeah. I did it twice on Friday! It kicked my butt!
On Saturday I was so so sore. But I was proud of myself to doing it, so that I could accomplish my goal!
Day 4: After the "rest" yesterday (where we did a ton of yard work. yeah, restful!) I was feeling great today. Just did Level 1 again, and felt much much better! I actually made it through all of the cardio, which I normally have to take a break in the middle of the jumping jacks (I am very....uh... blessed in the chest department, and keep getting slammed in the throat...). And I did many more pushups! I am excited that I feel like I've made some progress already!
I can't wait to see what the next 26 days bring!
@HawaiiBamaBride: It is really hard not to take a break. I literally just have to keep saying to myself "okay, only 1 minute of this section. You can do anyhting for a mintue!" And take it section by section. I do a lot of rationalizing to myself, "Look! you're already in circuit 2! There's only one after this. Keep Pushing!" Haha! Sometimes, in the final cardio, I have to say "COME ON! DO IT!" Out loud to myself. Good thing no one is usually home when I work out!
@kaylee26: Thanks! It helps me feel more accountable knowing that someone else is interested! :)
@BluegrassBunny:Day 2 for me went a lot better than day 1. For some reason, circuit one is the hardest for me to do, but once I get through it, I'm okay on circuit two and three.
My legs and butt have been so sore! Just ouch! I haven't done day 3 yet today. I'm thinking about doing it twice tomorrow and letting my body heal a little bit today. Muscles need to recover, right. Ahh, hopefully this isn't the start of me getting lazy. I only got 10lbs to lose, but it seems like a 100 today!
Wow great job ladies, keep it up!
I started the Shred today so I was excited to see this thread on here! Maybe this will keep me accountable to keep going!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to take "no more than 5 second" rests. Sometimes mine are more like 10 seconds! I suck at pushups, my favorite are the chest flys. Definitely some welcome relief after everything else!
I started the 30 day shred the last full week in August but have been slacking. Going back to full time tomorrow! Keep up the good work ladies!
Hi ladies,
I just started the 30 day shred today! It turns out I have zero upper body strength...I actually had problems lifting my arms afterwards :( But I am hoping that means it's working.
I know I would be a few days behind, but hopefully you won't mind joining this thread.
Day 5: Okay, Full disclosure... today was horrible. I felt completely weak the entire time and like I was just about to quit. But I didn't! I think part of it was allergies (Went from 99 degrees and dry, to 65 and raining overnight) and the fact that I normally do it in the morning, and did it at night. Also, maybe not enough protien today? I dunno. At least I made it through. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!
@BluegrassBunny: But you kept going!! That's excellent.
What are your goals?
@Greenz: and @SunnyBunny:
Welcome! I can't wait to hear how you do!
@HawaiiBamaBride: If you take a day off, make sure you don't quit! :) You can make it! I did feel a lot better after a day off, even though doing it 2x in a day was HARD!
Ok so I want to join in but I don't have my DVD yet! It's on the way but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll let you know once I start!
@kaylee26: My goal is to do the Shred every day for 30 days, and track my food every day (I do Weight Watchers). Hopefully, I'll lose weight and shed some inches!
I REALLY want to do this too! I can't afford to buy the DVD though.....I wonder if I can download it somewhere. I'm so jelous you are all doing it together. My gf's and I alwasy plan on working out more together but life gets in the way. Good luck everyone! You can do it! PLEASE keep me posted as to the results!
@candaceFromBC - I don't know if you have OnDemand through your cable provider, but Level 1 is available for me on OnDemand. Otherwise, I think you can even find some levels on YouTube!
Day 6: Much much much better this morning! I actually made it through all the cardio in circuit 3 without having to scale it back or take a break!
The side lunges with shoulder raises still kill me. I have to do some of them as just lunges, with out the raise. I think part of the issue may be that I am using 5lb weights (the lowest I have) and I have very little upper body strength.
okay, so VENT: My weigh in day for WW is Thursday mornings. Since I have been doing a good job, I wanted to do a little check just to see how it was going. I GAINED! I am up half a pound. I know half a pound isn't a big deal, but I also gained a poind last week (Right before I started shredding, but I was still within my weekly points food allowance.).
I am just frustrated. Working out every morning has made me SO much hungrier in the day, and I am trying to load up on fruits and veggies but dang this sucks! The only thing I can think is maybe I need more water? I've been getting in at least 1 liter a day, but I'll try and make it 2.
I know someone is going to say "Well you are gaining muscle" but muscles does not really weight that much more. It is marginal.
Ugh so frustrated! Any tips?
I did my day 2 at 6:30 this morning and I am super sore now! At work one of my first activities is to lead exercise. It's only a chair exercise video but I could barely lift my arms! I guess that means it's working!
Question: how long are you supposed to stay on level 1 before changing up to level 2?
@BlueGrassBunny - YES you need more water! If you're going to be shredding, you should be aiming for at MINIMUM between 2-3 litres of water per day. I know that seems like a lot, but your body gets used to it after a few days. And it will help curb your hunger/snacking. It could be that your body is craving water, and you're mistaking it for hunger. Good luck!
@SunnyBunny - they recommend 10 days of each level.
@SunnyBunny: your work has exercises?! that's awesome
Just did day 2 at level one. I am finding that I cannot use the five lb weights for the Anterior Raises with the Side Lunge...so I end up holding one weight with both arms. Hopefully by day 10 I will be able to do at least the first minute with the weights.
@Greenz: I have had to do it with just 1 as well. Man, 5lbs feels like a ton on that one. I have noticed it getting slightly easier.
@7SEVENJ9: Thanks for the tip of where to find it. I actually asked one of my clients if they had ever heard of it.......And they had both DVD's! So I am burning them to my laptop tonight :) I am going to start tomorrow!
Day 7:
So I started out this morning feeling exhausted and sluggish. I dragged my butt to do the shred. The first circuit is always the hardest for me. During the first circuit, I had TONS of negative self-talk. I just kept thinking, "I'm so tired... I don't feel like doing this... If I am this tired now, how tired am I going to be next week...I don't know if I can do this." Then I thought, SHUT THE HELL UP! YOU CAN DO IT! And then I like did it full out, balls to the wall! I feel amazing now! At the end, Jillian says "You should be floating off the ground right now, You are STRONG!" I thought Yes, Jill, yes I AM! I feel amazing now. I am really glad that I stuck with it!
How are you ladies doing? I gotta tell you, having this thread to "report" back to is really helping me out! Thanks for the support system, Hive!
Like I said in my first post, I am a child, so I made a sticker chart to motivate myself. It really does help me to have a "glaring in my face reminder" to work out! I posted it right by my desk so when I'm...uhhh sitting on the 'Bee instead of shredding, I'll get up!
Since I had a rough start this mornig, I gave myself a BIG sticker today to remind myself how I felt! Here is my chart:
Finished day 3! I have to agree with you, BluegrassBunny, it would have been so easy to skip a day without all the support here :) have fun with tomorrow's work out.
p.s. @BluegrassBunny: I love your calendar! I have a similar thing going on my white board (measurements and all! lol).
@Greenz: I work at an assisted living center, our company just started a new program for employees and residents. I can Work out for up to 20 minutes a day and watch Andy Griffith while getting paid for it. It's pretty snazzy :) Don't feel discouraged about your anterior lunges, I can barely make it with 3 lb weights!
@BluegrassBunny: I love the calendar! Have you picked out your prize yet? Sorry if you had already mentioned it above and I missed it!
@Candace From BC: I'm glad you found a copy! Let us know how it goes!
My update:
Day 3 - last night was actually good. I think I must have been in a good mood because somehow I did it without whining at myself and having a pity party while I was doing it. I also finally got some common sense and did the video with shoes on, that also made a big difference haha. Hopefully today is as successful!
Day 8: Another really good workout today! I can tell that I am getting stronger! And more endurance! It isn't easy but I am able to push myself harder and am doing almost everything without modificaiton now!
I even did all the shoulder raises today!
This makes me feel more confident about moving on to Level 2 on Sunday! Although, I've heard it is the toughest of all the levels? So I know that even if it is killing me, I just have to push through it! Someone remind me of that when I get there! Hahaha!
