I’m getting married on a farm in central NJ and the hotels where some guests will be staying are a good 20-30 minutes away from the venue. We’re having a lot of beer and wine at the reception and I’m worried that people will not be able to get themselves home afterward, especially considering the dark, unfamiliar roads. I thought about getting a shuttle service for our guests, but we don’t have a lot of money for it. We would need someone to make maybe 2 or 3 trips to pick guests up before the ceremony (same venue) and then 2 -3 trips to “return” them after the reception is over. We considered a rental car & driver, but what about the insurance??? and we are trying to not have to ask guests to be an official Dirty Delete. Any suggestions as to companies who would do it? Philly is about 45-1hr away and the nearest “big” town is Freehold, NJ. I could use some help! thanks!!

Our venue is in Monmouth, NJ. Our guests would likely be going between Hamilton and/or Hightstown, NJ & Cream Ridge, NJ.

As it gets closer to your date, I would consider posting an ad in a local newspaper looking for someone local. There are so many people out of work right now (me!) that I’m sure you could find someone – a college student, a retiree, or someone looking to make some cash on the side.
You could have a phone interview, and then maybe a face-to-face at some point to make sure it’s someone you feel good about.
Or, you could put the word out to friends and family – maybe someone has a friend/cousin/co-worker or two that would be willing to make the trip there and be a driver in exchange for being fed and an hourly or “set” fee.
Depending on how our plans shape up, we’d like to offer the same service to our guests. Asking around locally seemed to be the way to go when we visited a couple of potential venues. I found a college student who has friends and the all do extra weekend work like that – catering, etc – whatever they can do. As long as they understand they can’t have any alcohol!
Just curious – is the barn yours / your family’s or is it something you are renting? We’ve been scouring the tri-state area for a barn-wedding that we can afford (do our own catering if possible, BYOB, etc.) I’d love to know!

What is your approximate budget for the shuttle service? I know that you indicated that you don’t have a lot of money for a shuttle, but do you have some funds? Also, how many guest are you planning on providing this service for? After I get these details, I can hopefully make a good recommendation for a transportation vendor 🙂
