    hi...

i've had a few posts of doubting my dress.  it comes in waves.  some days i hate it....some days i like it a lot.  i bought the dress in september, and went back in to the salon to try it on again in october after MAJOR dress nervousness.  i felt better when i saw it...still slightly unsure, but i did feel better.  i was supposed to go in this month for measurements (it's a selia yang dress and will be custom fit which is why they didn't measure when i ordered) but now my appointment isn't until end of march so i'm stressing all over again.  they want me to be as close to my wedding size as possible.  anyway, here's what's bugging me about my dress.  can you ladies tell me your HONEST opinions of it?

Things to keep in mind:  this dress was big on me, i'm getting more of a scoop or a sweethearted neckline, a small amount of toole will be added to the neckline to highlight the shape.  also, i only have pics of it with a bustle so the flare of the trumpet is more dramatic when the train is down(it's the one part of the dress that i love).

#1 issue: is it too plain?

#2 issue: does the belt make my midsection look wide?  it sticks out a bit.

I'm thinking of switching belts too which can be decided during my appointment in march.  i ordered the flower one (which i'm pictured in) but also like the other belt too.  Are they too bulky?  do you guys like either of them?

thanks in advance for your honest opinions!

I honestly love it. Honestly love it. Is the belt your size or does it tie in the back - it does make you look a little wide thru the mid section just a little. I don't think I would have even noticed that until you mentioned it.

Both belts maybe - if you can afford it? The first one for the ceremony and the second one for the reception.

Did you get the veil in your picture cause I'm loving it with the dress - the perfect style.

thanks.  the belt ties in the back.  i guess it's a sash not a belt.  maybe i can customize it somehow to make me look thinner?

i can't afford both for sure.  i've never tried on the second one which is weird b/c i tried on so many of her sashes. i've always loved that one in ads so they said i could switch if i wanted.

and yes, that is my veil.

thanks for your opinion though and for your honesty!

I love it too! Really, I do. I have a really similar style of dress and have doubts about it too! I think it's one of those dresses that you commit to, and it looks fabulous. But unless you commit, you'll look un-confident and it won't work. I personally like the other belt better than the flower one, but the differences aren't major enough to not work...just remember, you got to sell yourself in the dress! (:

I LOVE it.  Of course, my dress also has clean lines with some embellishment and is a similar shape...so, I guess it's my style :)
But, I think it looks great on you and i LOVE the belt -- it defines your waist and adds some style.

You look great in it!  You must post pics when you get it fitted, I bet it will look amazing!

Just get some spanx and tie that belt tight.  Or get a black belt, which will create dark space and the illusion of a tiny waist (but seriously you are tiny as is).  That dress is so fab on you!

Even though it's a simple dress I don't think it's too plain by any means. It definitely makes a statement and I agree with PP - you have to have confidence to wear that dress.

Again, it's a gorgeous dress and I love it.

I love the dress on you!

#1-Definitely not too plain in my opinion...but I tend to prefer the clean & classic look of dresses without much lace/beading.

#2-I do not think the belt makes you look too wide at all, I actually think it accentuates your waist, but it's hard to tell for sure since I haven't seen a picture of you without it.  From the pictures that you shared, I definitely prefer the belt that you have on with your dress.  I think the other belt would stand out too much.

I love it - it's a gorgeous simple dress that makes a wow statement.  I don't think you look big at all.  I like the belt/sash you already chose.  The only thing I can suggest that might make you feel better is shifting the sash like half an inch up and then it will sit at the smallest part of your waist.  That's what Stacy and Clinton always say anyway.

I think it's beautiful.  It's figure flattering, and the belt by no means makes you look wide.  I think you made a great choice!

I forgot to address the belt question!

I really like the second one, but wonder what all of the tulle would look like on the dress...do they have it in salon so you can try it on before ordering it?

thanks all.  it's so hard not being able to see it!  plus i wanted to try the other belt on and now i have to wait until march!  sooo annoying.

@mizrunzou...they do have the belts there for me to try on which is good.  waiting until march to make that choice is the tough part!  yeah, the toole on that belt might not be great.  i actually noticed it too but with the added toole neckline maybe it'll all tie in and work?  who knows.  the dress is silk organza.

@bantioo...yeah, the belt was too low. i agree.  maybe that's the issue and it's all a simple fix??  a girl can hope.  and, what's best for stacy and clinton works for me.  or rachel zoe or tim gunn.

@indecisivebride...i love your screen name.  clearly, i'm also an indecisive bride!

    why is this so hard?

i love the design of the dress, i really like the hemline and how it flutters along the ground-its a really nice look to me.... but i'll be honest and say im not in love with the belt in your pics, it seems a bit too flouncy for me and takes the focus off the dress and your figure to me

but it is a beautiful dress!

I'm more of an embellishment type of person but I love that dress on you. It works very well with your body. If YOU think it's too plain, maybe wear some dangly earring that match the belt to add some more sparkle to the whole ensemble.

I love your belt also, much more so than the second one. I think the tulle around the second belt would hide your waist more and increase your worries about your midsection looking wide (which it doesn't).

I think you dress is beautiful!  Not too plain at all!  It is very elegant, very chic.  Also, I really love the belt you ordered I think it makes the dress.  You do not look wide, nor do I think it is possible that you could look wide.  You are thin lady! The second belt is very cool, but I think it is a little too chunky and might weigh you down in the middle...maybe if it didn't have the tulle behind it I'd like it more.

If it helps, I don't think I'd like the belt either. Just because it's not flush with the dress. That would bother me bc in side pics it might look fluffy. The dress though isn't too plain. It's has subtle detail, like the hem, which makes it eye catching.

My dress is also from Selia Yang!

I don't think the dress is too plain at all, but what I loved about her dresses is their clean lines.  I think the dress looks great on you and you'll be happier once it's in your size (and if the belt is up a little higher).  I like your belt better than the one in the ad -- I think that one is gorgeous, but might be a bit much/distracting.

Your post makes me want to call the salon and check in on my dress!

I love the dress!  I'm not wild about either of the belts, though.  The one you're modeling seems chunky and I feel like it sticks out too much.  The other one looks heavy too, and I find the tulle poking out behind the stones a little distracting.

I think the belt that Mrs. Cowboy Boot wore (or something like it) might be perfect.  Something where there is an embellishment, but the big parts don't go all the way around, more of an accent on a ribbon.

I love your dress! I don't think it's plain at all, it has just enough detail and I love the flower belt. Don't forget you will have jewelry and flowers too. I don't think the belt makes your midsection look wide at all, you have a great figure!

Going off of what ErinMarguerite said -- did you try on the belt with just one flower in the middle?  That was the one I was considering with your dress.  It may accentuate your waist a little more.

It's really pretty. Here's my honest suggestions:

    1. DEFINITELY get the shape altered at the top to make it a sweetheart neckline. I love your idea of adding tulle! It will highlight your lovely neck and add some flair.

    2. I don't like the belt at all. I'd switch it out for a much smaller, thinner belt with some bling/beading on it. Maybe even a sheer/net fabric (if you want to keep the illusion of a wide belt) with some smaller detailaing on it.

Other than that, I love it! It's a really great canvas to work with and just think about all the awesome accesories that you can go nuts with since your dress is more classy and understated.

    Good luck!

@marlie: Thanks!  The only thing that I am decisive about is who I'm marrying (thankfully!)

I thought that I had made up my mind about my dress and had an appointment to buy it today...but we ended up having a snowstorm so I couldn't drive the 1.5 hours because the interstate was blocked by a semi Cry  So now my appointment was pushed back a week...which means another week to change my mind!

thanks to everyone for commenting with honest answers.  it's so great to hear people's impression of it and get real opinions.

i definitely don't want to go 'beltless'.  the dress is WAY to plain for me with nothing on it so that option is out.  i am wearing dangly diamond earrings that my mom bought me (thanks mom!) and a diamond bracelet that i'm borrowing from my grandma.  i feel like the jewelry and the belt will hopefully add enough pizazz.

I'll see what else selia has in the way of belts.  there were some i tried on that were flat and they were pretty but none of them screamed wow to me.  when i first saw the flower belt (the one i ordered) i LOVED it and i think it looks better in person but it doesn't seem to photograph well. boo!  the second one is intriguing to me but maybe it'll be the same issue.  ugh.  i'm so stressed about this right now.  especially hearing so many of you echo my concerns.

@sarahnyc23...yay!  another selia bride!!  i did try the one flower belt but i didn't love it at the time.  maybe i'll give it another go.  i wanted one that had a little bling on it, which that one didn't.  are you wearing one of her belts?

i hope that i can somehow make this dress into something i'm excited to wear without breaking the bank here.  i'm so nervous about it!

thanks again to everyone for weighing in!

@marlie: I am wearing one of her lace dresses with the belt that has some silverish embroidery in the middle and beading around the sides (not a good description, but I'll try and post a pic).  Doesn't the belt with the one flower have a little rhinestone or something in the middle that would give it a bit of bling?  I'm forgetting now.  It sounds like maybe your accessories will add some sparkle too.  I do really love your dress though.

I personally think its quite lovely on you- and you're really blingin' up the accessories (good for you!), but I think the best move is to try on several belts at the bridal store until you get that wow factor you're going for. :o)

P.S. I don't think it makes your midsection look wide, I think its beautiful with the original belt on as well, but you should really LOVE the look you're rocking :o)

@sarah....i tried that same combo on and LOOOOOVED it.  oooh, so beautiful. i ultimately felt that lace wasn't right for the venue and type of wedding.  it was sad to see that one go. i also debated that belt with my dress but after seeing it with the lace, it lost something when it was on a more simple dress.  i'll try it again maybe.   ooh, you are going to look gorgeous!!

@azinaugust...thanks...i'm hoping eventually to love the look.  it's so frustrating to not be one of those girls who knows when it's THE ONE.

I really love the dress and the belt! It is not too plain at all. It is classic. But the belt makes it modern. You could still pull off a fun necklace/hairpiece/pair of earrings because it is not too busy, but you don't need it. The shape is great on you too! I like it... I like it A LOT!

I love, love, love the dress!!  You look fabulous so don't even second guess it.  I do not love either of the sashes though...I don't think they are doing anything for you or the dress.  You have a great figure and I don't think the current belt/sash is showing it off.  Like a couple of girls have said, they might be too thick/chunky... consider something thinner and I think it would really accent your waist.

I agree that a slimmer belt might ease your worries about the flowered belt making you look wider than you are - you do look stunning in your pictures, but if you're already self-conscious about it, it would be better to change it up for something you feel more comfortable with.

This Etsy seller makes GORGEOUS beaded crystal sashes that I'm in love with, and something similar might look amazing with your lovely, elegant dress.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/KirstenKuehnDesigns

I think your dress is fabulous and looks great on your figure.  I tend to like more simple dresses as opposed to dresses with a lot of bling and whatnot.  I'm going through the same issue with the belt for my dress.  I don't like the belt that came with my dress and I'm having a tough time trying to decide what would look best.  It doesn't help that most of the belts I've looked at are on Etsy and I can't try them on with my dress to make sure I like it.

Anyway, normally I like flower belts, but I think I like the second belt you posted better.  It's very unique.  It's sophisticated yet whimsical at the same time.  I think it depends on the look you are going for.  The flower belt seems like a more romantic look to me.
