We are having a signature drink, which we made the other night. It consisted of 1 oz skyy vodka, 1 oz blue curacao, and lemonade. It ended up being VERY sweet. Does anyone have an idea of what to mix with this drink to make it less sweet? We HAVE to sue blue curacao–as one of our main colors is blue.

Have you tried soda water instead of lemonade (or half and half)?
Ah, sh– this is when I remember that US lemonade is different from UK lemonade…

@MrsSmurf: Are you set on vodka? I like it with tequila.
1 1/2 oz. Don Eduardo Silver Tequila
2 oz Pineapple juice
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao
another idea… triple sec instead of lemonade
2 oz vodka
¼ oz triple sec
¼ oz blue curacao

Half lemonade and half club soda might dull the sweet.

I’d half the lemonade portion and replace the other half with soda.

or.. just replace half the lemonade with club soda as PP’s suggest.

@Lt.Columbo: Thanks for the suggestions..I will have to try them out. Our hall has cuervo..would that be just as good?
We are trying to use the liquor our hall has on hand–less we pay extra for then! Thanks to everyone else..I don’t know why I didn’t think of using soda! haha

We’re doing the same thing :]. Try adding Sprite or club soda like someone else mentioned.
Another “blue” option that we considered is called ‘Belgian Blue’, I guess, but it wasn’t near as good! Vodka, coconut liquor, Blue Curacao, & Sprite.

Hmm..I’m wondering if just vodka, curacao, and sprite would be good then? I guess I will have myself a few drinks tonight 😉

It could also be altered depending on what lemonade you’re using. Depending how much effort you want to put towards the signature drink, a more lemony, less sweet lemonade could really balance it out.

I think the Sprite instead of lemonade idea would def work! If not then the idea of adding soda water and less lemonade would work too! Either way sounds delicous!

Well! We tried just sprite, curacao, and vodka wasn’t that great. Pineapple juice..but then with the curaco it turned the drink green! lol pretty unsucessful night!

Instead of using lemonade – which in itself is a very sweet drink, I would use freshly squeezed lemons, mixed with soda. Blue Curaco itself is a very sweet alcoholic drink, and it is easy to send it over the edge to sickly with lemonade. I used to do quite a lot of cocktails when I worked in a bar, and found that most people preferred a little zing in Blue Curaco based drinks.
EDIT – Personalyl I think half soda, half lemonade just waters down the taste and wouldn’t really tone down the sweetness

@MrsSmurf: We are doing the exact same drink!
I have tried Crystal light lemonade, it’s a little less sweet
I am sure like a soda water would help (we made it with the spite and actually loved it, but I love sprite and vodka so I may have been partial)

As a bartender maybe cut the lemonade out and use Sweet and sour mix or half Margarita mix mixed with water ,vodka, blue curacao and a splash of sprite. Make sure it is shaken VERY well. You could also use a Citron Vodka to cut the lemonade out,add some squeezes of lemon and the sprite/club soda( a press) . I add the sprite to alot of drinks such as an Adios MF and it takes it down a notch but still get the alcohol! What you are serving is an Elec. lemonade!:) The original version….
