Signing Cloth Question

posted 5 months ago in Beehive

My sweet FIL's picked up a signing cloth for us when they were visiting family in Hong Kong recently.  It is a red satin (maybe silk) cloth embroidered with a dragon and a phoenix - sorry I dont know the correct name for it.  They said it is a traditonal Hong Kong/Chinese thing, and I am hoping someone in the hive is familiar with this. My question is, what type of pen or marker should our guests use to sign it? Fabric marker? Permanent marker? Help please!

We're having one too.  I bought a fabric marker at Michael's but was going to try to buy a small scrap of similar silk fabric first to make sure it doesn't bleed.  Another thing is making sure it won't stain the table cloth (and prevent slipping) - I bought foam board and will try to either pin the silk or tape it to the board to make it easier for people to sign.  I hope it works!  Would love to hear from other people who had these as well...

From the weddings that I attended that did this, the Sharpie fine tip black permanent marker wrote the best.
