I've been checking out some online sites for fresh flowers..and the deals are pretty good but... I don't need 100 of each flower!! I just don't need that many. And, I really can't afford to pay that much either. So, I'm back to looking at silk flowers, does anyone know of any good wholesale websites where you don't need a tax id to purchase?? Or does anyone know of any fresh flower sites that allow you to purchase just what you need? Thanks!!

and I PM NatiSylv and she said they got their flowers from www.fiftyflowers.com

I just ordered flowers from https://silkspecialties.com/default.aspx and they have already shipped them! I'll letcha know how they turn out.

    hopefully it helps :)

I am using fake flowers.  I purchased real touch roses at Hobby Lobby.  If you live near one you should check them out.  Frequently they are 50% off and you can ask them to order exactly what you need.

I'm getting my silk flowers through this lady that I found on E-bay that I  found. I put up a link that she gave me but it can also lead you to her store online. She is working on mine right now and I sent her some pics that I really liked for her to replicate. She only uses realistic looking flowers. Just thought I would throw it out there for you, she seems to be pretty reasonable. Let me know what you think!

My fiance and I are using Martha Stewart's paper roses. They are a pain to make, but they look REALLY good. (Surprisingly!) I am going to have a real bouquet because it will be given away for our "Aniversary Dance". Otherwise, all of the girls will have the paper ones. We are donating the money we would have spent on traditional flowers to cancer research.

saveoncrafts.com is a neat website to check out. I didn't get my silks from there, I went to Michael's withe 40% off coupons, but I did buy tulle and ribbon at a great price.

Thanks for ths board! I'm deathly allergic to real flowers so will have to use silk (or other artificial) flowers. I love DIY, so I'm looking forward to it, but don't know where to start on this one. Looking forward to all the answers and will be sure to post what I decide.

Im also doing fake flowers.  Its just not in my budget to do real.  I went to hobbly lobby and got some of the real touch pink roses for my flowers and i used white roses for the BM's.  I even made the bouts and corsages too!  They really look great!  Now my only problem is making some sort of arrangement that will be on the table with our sand ceremony.  I've got to come up with something pretty, yet simple.  Any ideas on that one?

Something I thought about doing on the altar at the church--which could also work or your sand ceremony--is a big arrangement of baby's breath. I've seen it done before and even though you'd think it would look cheap, it can look gorgeous. Plus, it's simple and clean looking.

I ended up not ordering enough flowers for my wedding, so we visited our local florists and they sold us flowers by the stem for a decent price (because they didn't have to arrage them).  We didn't buy mini calla's (they were a rip off), but the roses matched the price of the online wholesaler.

Also if you visit fiftyflowers.com you can customize a wedding package and mix your  flowers.

we're getting real...BUT --- as far as Hobby Lobby goes - ALWAYS check their website before you go because you can generally find a coupon on there for a significant discount on an item of your choosing.

I've found that silk flowers are not cheaper then fresh, sometimes even if they are on sale at Michaels or something. The only reason I'm using silk reception flowers is more value for my money. I can decorate my house with them afterwards. Bouquets are real flowers that we are DIYing and will probably be purchased from Sams club.

I use mainly silk flowers for my designs as I sell to brides across the country on etsy.  On my blog I have a post about why. I sell the True Touch roses and other flowers in bulk on etsy.  But someone asked me why I preferred those to real so I blogged about it lol.  Check it out:

I got my bouquets, hair clips, boutonairres (yeah I know that is spelled wrong) and corsages from bloomed to last (internet). I am extremely pleased.  My bouquet, 3 bridesmaids bouquets, 4 hairclips, 8 boutonairres and 2 corsages ran me 300 USD. My bouquet features a ballet tie of two different colored ribbons. I checked local florists and because I wanted cymbidium orchids, fresh would have run me about 450 USD for the same. The designer sends approval pics so you can change things before she ships them off. The primary reason I am using silk flowers is because the wedding is Aug. 7th and outdoors. That time of year usually is hot and humid and I think droopy flowers are just plain sad. I posted pics on another post under Flowers.

I really love the look of these silk bouquets on the site listed below. I've order individual flowers to see how they look and they are very beautiful. I'm still trying to win over my mom, who wants to order bulk and do the bouquets oursleves. I think this would be a lot easier. Hope this helps!

If you get a chance check me out on etsy.  I use mainly True/Natural Touch flowers but even those that aren't are the highest quality silks.  I love doing custom orders.  Just shipped an order of 15 Jade True Touch Wrist Corsages and 13 boutineers yesterday.

    http://wreathartist.etsy.com

If you decide to go with silk make sure to ask about color fastness especially if doing an outdoor wedding using brights like orange, fushia, purple or reds.  Many of the lower quality silks will start to release their dyes when they get wet or damp.  I have had brides want to provide their own silks they bought somewhere and me do the work.  I always show them if I think there will be a problem.  There is nothing that gets the point across more than sticking one of the flowers they brought into a cup of water and watching the dyes bleed.

Regarding using silk flower opposed to fresh, as a florist for the past 35 yrs and having worked with fresh flowers, doing so many weddings in CA, It's more reasonable to use permanent florals because:1. More options to choosing the flowers you want.

                                                    2. Getting the colors you like.

                                                    3. Permanent gifts for home and bridal party or guest.                                           guest.

4.Double as aisle arrangement and centerpieces.

5.Less stress, you receive them well in advance.

                                                    6.No WEATHER issues.

Some local wedding shops have silk floral rentals that are very classy and affordable. Besides, what are you going to do with hundreds of silk roses after the wedding?

I'm totally going with silk for a few reasons. I got a quote for using roses, and really cheap flowers for my simple bouquets, and they quoted me almost 1000!! Are you freaking kidding me??? Not to mention, i had to go with crappy flowers because apparently they cannot get red hydrangeas or red peonies or red ranunculus! All of which are actually red in nature! So I was really annoyed and just decided to go with silk. I've heard good things about afloral.com, and am going through them. They are way cheaper than save-on-crafts.com, and I love saveoncrafts! So I'm getting amazing flowers, and all the supplies needed for about 110. I'm getting more than I planned on even. I am not doing bouts and corsages for people who aren't either in the wedding or helping with it. So I only need the my bouquet, the 3 bridesmaids bouquets, 5 bouts, and that's it!

I fear what my bouquet  would cost if it were possible to get the flowers i want. I was actually there is no such thing as red hydrangeas by the florist, kind of funny since I have them growing in my backyard, wtf???

I am also opting to do mainly silk flowers with a few real flowers thrown in...

The place that I have ordered ALL of my silk flowers was www.afloral.com.  They are usually running good sales, discounted shipping, and have a GREAT selection.  Their return policy is also VERY good.  I ordered just a few stems to see their quality, and then ordered a few more.  Once I knew for sure which ones that I wanted to use, they were offering free shipping, and I placed my large order.  Still only came to a little more than $200!

Once I had it all in hand, I simply returned the stems that I didn't like, and they processed my return in less than a week!  Their return policy is 30 days, which is reasonable.  On my three orders, all three had something to return, and they processed my credit on my card that I had paid with for the two newer orders, and for the one order that didn't meet their 30 day policy, they gave me store credit.

I was thrilled with them.  If you're interested, you can check out my blog for pics and posts of the flowers that I received and some overall thoughts on silk vs. real flowers...click on my profile for the link.  Hope this helps!

I also love, love, love afloral.com!!  I like the fact they offer all flowers at different prices depending on the quality.  I first found afloral for a school project, the had gerbera daisies for $.49 , unbelievable! I wouldnt use them for a wedding but they were perfect for creating a 400 quantity daisy field for a play.  Now that I'm getting married I have bought the real touch gerbera daisies for a more money and they are beautiful and still they were cheap!! I'm not getting married until Dec. but I have purchased all my flowers from Afloral.com for only $180 appr.  Great Deal!
