So my fiancé and I went to New York this past Saturday to get our license since we are eloping this Friday. I was just checking it out and at the bottom I dont notice where the bride and groom sign after The ceremony. We signed it in front of the clerk up top but I read you have to sign afterwards as well, am I just going crazy?? Please help me if you know, I will worry until Friday if not!

@KennedysueC: Hey OP, you should see it towards the bottom under where it says Solemize the Marriage rites of. That gets filled out by the person performing your ceremony. There is a box that says Signatures.

That’s what I thought and there isn’t a place at all just for the officiant and witness!

I don’t think you do have to sign it again. I got married in NYS, and we only signed it at the office, just the witnesses and officiant signed the day of. Maybe call the office or your officiant and double check?

Not in NY, but in Oklahoma we signed the license once — We signed it the day we picked it up from the clerk in our preferred name choices. There was no need to sign it again. some states require you to sign AFTER you are legally married. Some require the signature beforehand.
You won’t be signing it after you get married — It’s already done!
