engagedsagebrush:  I didn’t really know before either!  But when I went to a jeweler who specializes in moissanite, she pronounced the first syllable to rhyme with “moist”, but with more of a “z” sound than an “s” sound.

Moy-sa-nite. Just always made sense to me, but whatever,  in my head I pronounced Hermione as her-moyne until the 4th Harry Potter book made it clear so I trained myself not to do that. Then the movies helped too.

ladyamalthea:  Funny you should say that. When I was in elementary we did this thing at school where the teacher would read out loud a book and we would have to draw what was happening in the book. She read us the first Harry potter book which had just come out and she pronounced Hermione as Her-mee-on. So up until the movies came out, that’s what I always thought it was!

I say moy-za-nite. But when I see Moissy, I want to pronounce it Moi-zee.

Like the name Moises, Moy-sehn-Ite <br />(misənˌīt) is how it’s listed on Mirram-Webster online.

I heard a jewler pronounce it like Moist (minus the t) in ite. So I say Moissy the same way for the moi sound as I would Moist.
