I'm really not mad at my SIL anymore for saying this, but it was so ridiculous I just wanted to share it...

DH, Talitha and I live with his parents and littlest sister (YSIL) and his brother and other sister (OSIL) live about an hour away. Right now my MIL is about 3 hours away recovering from a bone marrow transplant for cancer (we're hoping she'll be released from the hospital on Wednesday!), so YSIL and I have taken the brunt of cleaning/laundry, while DH does most of the cooking. So that's the background.

On Sunday, all of the siblings were home, and we were just kind of sitting around talking, when all of a sudden, OSIL says, "I'm the alpha female since mom's not home!" We're a real dog-loving family, so it KINDA made sense she would speak in these terms, but still...

I was speechless, but DH said, "Uh, what about December? I mean, she's a mom and all.." "Nope!" said OSIL,"I'm the oldest, that makes me alpha!"

Ok, woo-hoo, you're the oldest female, good for you. I realize she was just kind of kidding around, but I'm not super excited to be told that she's somehow "over" me because she's older. We're all adults, I don't know why she likes to play this "Older siblings boss around younger siblings" game, and it's certainly not any game that I want to play.

It was funny, though, because later that night when DH and I were alone, he said "I can't believe OSIL would insult you like that! I mean, she doesn't live here, she just comes and makes messes in the kitchen for you to clean up and sits around watching movies, bossing everyone around! She doesn't have any right to be alpha over you." So, nice to know that DH appreciates me... and that we're apparently a family of wolves. :)

Omg, what an odd thing to say! I would never assume to be alpha just because I'm the oldest sibling. I'm sure she was just being light hearted though.
