I tried on a platinum Sophia Tolli dress. I loved the color so much! It looked great and totally bride. That particular dress wasn't the best style for me, and it just happened that the dress that I picked didn't come in that color. Boo!
I think by going by what you're saying, that the second dress you have up would be perfect. It's kind of half and half. You got half silver and half white. And plus it's super pretty :)
Gorgeous!
I think whether silver is "non-traditional" or not really depends on the shade - no one would bat an eyelash at that lovely light silver dress at the bottom.
I'm still dress hunting... can you post the designers of these wedding gowns? I especially love dress number two - it's beautiful! ![]()
Thanks!
Ooo, thanks Doctorgirl, I have a new designer to look at now! And just to clarify, I'm not specifically trying to decide between the dresses pictured - just wanted to put up some examples of silver dresses so people had a visual.
Cellar Door, the designers are:
1. Demetrios
2. Maggie Sottero
3. Maggie Sottero
4. Cosmobella
I love the style of all of these designers! I'm not sure how to describe it but they all seem to have a similar way of draping fabric. Kind of a more modern but very romantic look!
Also, if you like those, here are some of my other fave designers with sort of a similar feel:
Mon Cheri, Enzoani/Enzoani Blue, Melissa Sweet with Priscilla of Boston, Mon Cheri, Jolie Bridal, Impression Bridal, and Anjolique. Hope that helps with your search! They all have collections online that you can browse!
I think silver wedding dresses can be beautiful!
although, I always picture the "wedding dress" that ariel wore in the little mermaid ;)
I love all of those dresses... and I think it kinda depends on HOW silver and how shiny the dress is. . . but if you love a silver dress, I say get it! Who cares if it's non-traditional
These are GORGEOUS!!! Lovin' the silver..may go check that out myself..I originally wanted mine to be the palest of pink but this might be just the ticket!
I fell in love with a silver/blue dress but opted out b/c the cost was just a little too high for me. But thought I would share them with you.
The first one I tried on - simple but elegant and it feels wonderful on.
I'm actually going the silver route. I’ve been looking at every designer for about 2 months now. After looking at all of those, including all the silver satin ones from Maggie Sottero and Sottero & Midgley; I went for getting mine custom made by a local designer, b/c I couldn’t get the silhouette I wanted in Silver/Platinum, that and I didn’t want a satin gown.
Depending on how much you want to spend, there are several designers, one of my favorite is the Platinum collection from Priscilla of Boston. Another is this dress by KittyChen Couture. It's stunning and when I called about if she does silver, the designer herself responded and sent out a swatch for me to see the color, which was perfect. Here is the dress that it comes in.
I thought I would warn you about the 3rd dress you showed from Maggie Sottero, is the Nouvel Lynette I believe with her other dress being Nouvel. That is the one I was buying, until I found out the Oceana (color) was an aqua blue/green more than silver. So just a heads up on that.
KittyChen - Legacy. This is the one she can do in a Silver/Platinum color.
Priscilla of Boston - the only reason I didn't go for her, (I so desperately did) was cost, I just couldn't talk myself into spending that much money for a wedding dress.
Good luck, and if you want more designers, let me know. I feel that I'm an expert on silver dresses now lol.
I am absolutely in love with some of the silver dresses out there- although i'm wearing a Silver Romona Keveza Design- I absoltuely love the look of this silver one she designed
Fun Fact: In the 1500s-1700s wedding dresses were actually silver in England. It didn't change until the mid to late 1700s.
I love the dresses you posted! I think that an ivory dress is typically considered to be white (or a traditional wedding dress color, anyway) nowadays. I think a silver dress would be considered less traditional, but still in the "wedding dress" category (as opposed to red or blue or whatnot). I personally have a gold (and ivory) dress, and I know that it stands out as being a bit different, but it is still obviously a wedding dress. I would group my dress and silver dresses in the same category as champagne dresses - they're still offered as wedding colors, definitely look like wedding dresses, but are certainly different than the traditional white.
The dress I had tried on and fallen in love with was a light gold colour. But when it came to order it, I went for a diamond white dress believing I wanted to stay as close as possible to being "traditional." Lo and behold, I got thinking, looked at some pictures of real brides and realized I didn't care if I strayed a bit from tradition...the dress made me feel good about myself and the colour just matched my skin tone. Called the bridal shop and told them I wanted to change the colour and luckily it was only a week after purchasing it so they had no problems with the change.
My advice to you, go for what will make you happy and forget about what you think others will say.
Thanks so much for the help and inspiration! I am definitely trying on some silver dresses. Who knows if I'll like them on, but they are definitely in the running! :)
I"m loving these dresses! They all look so fashion forward!
Silver is beautiful! Like a lot of previous posters, I think the shade will affect whether the dress looks super traditional, but I think they're all beautiful and appropriate. (I'll admit that I don't really see all-red dresses as particularly bridal. I think even the boldest silver dress looks elegant and bridal and really sweet.)
i love your idea of being non-traditional. i am always thinking of ways to make my day different from others and i think you have found a way to fit you. the only 2 things, i would do with this idea is make sure my bridesmaids dresses are a very deep color, like navy to make sure that your dress POPS in pics and have a fall or evening wedding (if you have not finalized your date/time). Good Luck!!
I love the silver. if it goes with your skintone, I say go for it! My dress is a light gold and it definitely compliments my skin more than white. When is your wedding? I feel like richer colors are definitely appropriate for fall and winter weddings. Or an evening wedding in the city. It may look out of place in an outdoor wedding.
I think silver is gorgeous and could be a really unique but not over-the-top way to personalize your day. Go for it!
BTW, at Loehmann's I just got this Nicole Miller dress to wear to a fundraiser... $140 instead of the original $700 or so. It's so light and effortless, though, I'd definitely wear it if I were getting married on the beach.

Lately I'm into the idea of a silvery wedding dress, for a few reasons. One, I have kind of an unusual skin tone with a lot of yellow undertones, and have a hard time with looking sallow. Silver is really a good color for me. Also, I like the different-but-not-too-different factor, and think detailing shows up really nicely on silver.
On the other hand...I want to keep things 'mostly' traditional. I like the idea of traditional with a little twist, but not totally unconventional. So just wanted to get a feel for general public opinion - where would a silver wedding dress fall on that spectrum in your opinion?
I put a few examples below just so you can get a feel for what's out there in silver!
