Hi there!  I just replied to you in my other post.  My dress is ASM 3040 by Sottero and Midgley.

The sash only comes in two colors though – blush pink or olive green.

May I recommend La Sposa?  I think their dresses strike just the right balance between simple-sophisticated and ornate-elegant.

I recommend Makaella dresses. They just put up a new collection on their website. There’s a lot that are very simple but elegant… ugh, I must not look or else I will see a dress I like and regret it! :p One I tried on from their previous collection was under 2k… I think about 1500 so they should all be within your budget. Good luck!

Pronovias has some beautiful yet simple dresses.  Of course, I’m biased b/c my dress is Pronovias.  🙂  Really, most designers have them, you just have to look through their collections.

Forget about what your girlfriends think! Seriously. I think simple dresses are beautiful, and in fact I wish mine was more like that!

Have you heard of Jenny Yoo? Her dresses are very simple and elegant, and tend to be inexpensive.

Actually I think that $2000 gives you a lot of options, especially since the cost goes up with more beading and lace. I also think that J. Crew wedding dresses are beautiful and simple. And I agree that you should check out Maggie Sottero/Sottero and Midgley dresses–she has a lot of simple beautiful dresses with ruching.

Go with your heart!!! 🙂

When I went dress shopping I went out with the intention to find a dress that would be classic and elegant, “timeless”. Personally I feel that lace and beading can definitely make a dress look dated, but that was my preference based on me and my fiance’s tastes. I can’t tell you how many stores I went with my bridesmaids and they would mention my dress options being to plain. Finally, I went on my own and it was so amazing to select something that I was going to feel gorgous in and my finace would love. Ultimately, he’s going to think you look amazing that day :), just make sure you feel beautiful and he’ll love the confidence and beauty you feel wearing a gown you love. What’s the look that your going for?

P.S. I definitely agree with all the comments the bees posted for you. I tried on all the gowns “justeen” posted :), but I went with a gown from the la sposa collection from Pronovias. Mikaella, Pronovias, Rosa Clara or Aire Barcelona, J.Crew, Paloma Blanca, I can honestly go on and on. All share the classic design with minimal to no beading and lace. It made it really easy for me to add a mantilla veil as I wanted a spanish style to my look, but I could have easily converted my look to another feel because of the simplicity of the gown.

Oh, I feel like you might like my dress (it’s a Jacquelin Exclusive and it comes with a black, ivory, or white sash if you want it…I didn’t, I’m thinking of adding a beaded sash though):

Here’s the back:

This is my dress (in diamond white, not champagne). It’s Maggie Sottero’s Vernice. I bought the floor sample for $600. I don’t know why you’ve ruled out corsets, but Maggie dresses are famous for their corsets, which make curvy girls look amazing. (I’m a street size 14/16, btw.) You can always choose a zipper over a hidden corset if you just don’t like the look.

my only comment is to say that i think you should go with what YOU want! It is your dress, and you have to wear it. i never heard of a fiance caring that much what the bride wears. mine just wants me to be happy and make a decision already! and ALL my friends have DIFFERENT opinions…so in the end after trying on a TON of dresses, i realize i am going with whatever makes me feel like a real glam bride and a princess.  that being said, i like all the choices above and in general i love anything by Maggie Sottero. they have something for everyone and NONE of them look cheap.
