    Hi Bees,

I'm opening this thread up for any shout-outs you've got for wine & food pairings. I'm meeting with the caterer this weekend and want to bring some ideas. I'm looking for

    Simple

    Tasty

    Good with Wine

Cheeses are on the list, but I need some recommendations for TYPES of cheese. Also have olives as well.

Any help would be much appreciated?

Creamy cheese like brie or goat cheese go well with white wine, and harder cheeses like manchego or pecorino romano would go better with red wine, like chianti.

Olives are good, but a *lot* of people may not like them.  Strawberries go well with white and sparkling wines.  Chocolate is great with red wines.  That's all I can think of right now!

@PeytonL79 has a great list.  I will second brie.  Its such a fantastic cheese.  And baked brie is always a crowd pleaser.

Do you have a whole foods or something near you?  Those people behind the counter really know their stuff and can give great suggestions.  Different places have different names for it but there's a combo cheese that combines bleu cheese and brie that's the perfect balance between the 2.  I like an apple slice with stronger flavored cheese, and I put honey on my manchego.

Have a Trader Joe's nearby? They have some seashell shaped chocolates... PERFECT with your fave red wine.

What about some greek chicken skewers with a chardonnay? Or bruschetta? Baked filled mushroom caps (could fill with goat, feta, havarti and some crispy pancetta and a bit of bread crumbs?

An easy one would be to get a pack of phyllo dough, fill with any type of readymade pie filling or spinach + egg + a little mozzarella + garlic salt and make into a long pastry, then slice into smaller pieces. Depending on what you put in there would make it good to go with a red or a white!

And my last idea... what about shrimp cocktail or oysters on the half shell (it's a month that ends in R--oyster time)? Or bacon/prosciutto wrapped scallops? Or reallllyyy easy, smoked salmon on toast with a lemon dill sauce.

    Good luck!
