At the end of the day it’s your day. You and your soon to be fiance are happy with your plans and that is all that matters. If you guys are paying for it, you get the say, not parents or friends.

That being said, usually those who try to change your mind have good intentions. My wedding was pretty simple and very cost effective. My mom asked me throughout the entire day “are you happy with this? Is this what you wanted? Really?” I think usually they just want you to have a special day with no regrets.

I’m in a similar boat!

My mom wants a repeat of my sister’s golf course wedding… I want simple, in a church hall.

Luckily in this day and age we have wedding forums to bounce ideas off of!!

So… what are you planning??

dawnE:  Sounds awesome!  Maybe you can still have lights somehow, maybe inside the gazebo, but is there a power source?

We’re getting married in my fiance’s hometown church, about 3 hrs from where we and my family live. I reserved the church hall as well, but my fiance is pushing for the putt-putt/batting cage/amusement center! We’ve considered the park there too, but I’m not too comfortable with hoping the weather holds even in June in upstate NY!  So maybe we will eat at the church and then go to the amusement center… Anyway, I just set the date today, so we’ll see!

… But I might end up with punch and donuts!

sept22insf:  yes. Yes she did. I was stressed by the reception and had a bit of a flip out because I forgot to put out the serving utensils for supper. So I think it was coming from a good place. But yeah, didn’t need those questions on the wedding day.

I think it is a reference to a cheap/simple reception, usually called a “cake and punch” because that’s all you serve… I’d personally take the donuts any day though!
