Since when did Nov. 1 become the start of the Christmas season?

I didn’t notice a sudden switchover to Christmas this weekend. The stores that had Christmas stuff up in Oct still have it and there wasn’t a major shift yet.

When I went shopping this weekend the biggest thing I saw were cadets and other groups selling poppies.

Lots of houses have Christmas lights up. Some had lights on for Diwali I believe, I saw some in the clearance section at Walmart. Some used them for Halloween. The majority just want them up when it’s safe and more comfortable to do so. The weatherman complained about how cold his fingers were putting them up in October.

Christmas should wait until after November 11. Seems disrespectful.

The morning of November 1st, I went out to walk my dogs, and noticed that my neighbors had already put up a freaking Christmas wreath! It was at 9am, on the day after Halloween for Pete’s sake! The wreath had red ornaments and a velvet bow. . . . I just shook my head.

I also love Christmas time, but starting the Christmas decor and songs on the radio on Nov 1st makes it seem less special to me. I don’t want to get sick of Christmas before December even rolls around.

Oh my gosh, yes! Yesterday afternoon while at the store we went to see if there was Halloween clearance candy and the whole section was full on Christmas with music already! We are still a long way from Thanksgiving. Ugh. 60 days of Christmas….

weatherbug: I was walking through Sears on Thursday before Halloween…. They had a FULL CHRISTMAS SECTION! Prelit trees and everything! I was in awe and shock. I love Christmas, but can we get through the month of October first?! Haha

Some department stores here had their ‘christmas section’ up and ready to go on SEPTEMBER 18th/19th! I love Christmas, can happily listen to Christmas songs year round without getting sick of them, but that is way too early! Also, depending on how big their lighting display is, some people start early so they can get it done in time! Some near me had to start putting them up in September, their display was so big, it would take that long to put together!

I also like to start my Christmas shopping in October/November if I can to avoid the pre-Christmas crowds, so I guess I don’t think it is too early, depending on what is happening, like a wreath on the door already is crazy to me, as is having a Christmas section in the store in September, but a store opening their Christmas section in late October/November seems fine.

I put up my Christmas lights today. They’ll be staying ‘off’ (unless I’m fiddling with them to change something) until the 12th. But where I live, it gets effing cold at the drop of a hat and the house is in the shade. It could drop to below zero at any time, really.

It took us about 2 hours to get all the lights up and the configuration done right so everything plugged in and we don’t have any blown fuses. Do I want to do that in freezing rain, snow or subzero temperatures? Hell no. So up they went.

It’ll be another few weeks until the tree goes up, but as soon as halloween is over I’m in Christmas mode. Thanksgiving was a month ago and I’m done with fall and ready for the holidays.

In the Philippines, Christmas can start in September!! You’ll start hearing carols on the radio, lights and decorations on the street lamps, etc. It’s pretty crazy how early they start celebrating. I always loved it as a child.

Ok back to North America, one of my co-workers instagrammed her Christmas tree that they already put up! Another friend posted the Christmas decorations she had bought from Walmart.

weatherbug: I waited until the last minute to buy Halloween candy. When I got to the grocery store there were 2 displays of candy at the entrance and an entire aisle of Christmas stuff! C’mon now.

Honestly I think they need to come up with a new name. We’ll let Jesus keep Christmas for 12 days and the 2 month long celebration prior will be called Retailmas.

Last year we went to Disney November 1 through the 8th and they had started putting lights up and christmasing the park…therefore I can conclude that if disney says It’s not too early, it’s not too early.

(sorry, I just really love Christmas)

(and disney)

I’m surprised it took this long. Usually our stores in NJ have trees and decorations for sale by September 1st…right along with the Back to School supplies.
