Okay, so the FH and i are thinking about singing at the reception. Music is a big part of our lives ( he plays just about every instrument under the sun and I loove singing and play a few myself) I woul love, love, love to do a duet of Jason Mraz’s Lucky. Its simple, he can play guitar and the lyrics are easy to remember. I won’t lie though- I mean he is totally used to performing ( hes been in bands and the music scene since he was fourteen) but I on the other hand have pretty limited experience, as in none. I sing in my shower, in my car, and occasionally with my friends. I know I have a decent voice so I am not worried about sounding terrible I am just horrified I will choke up and not be able to do it. I really want to though- and we really want to do this in lieu of a first dance as neither of us are very coordinated . I think if we practice it enough and I am totally confident in our performance it would help…I am afraid if we don’t do it I will always regret it…from the getgo our wedding has been about us- i have made no attempts to impress anyone and every attempt to be true to us so I definately want the reception to be a reflection of that as well, and doing some coreographed dance to pre-recorded music can be great for some peope, but its just not us. Any suggestions on soothing my nerves? I thought of maybe putting together a couple of songs and booking a gig at a local coffee shop just to help get rid of some of the jitters.

Maybe you could check out a karaoke night in your area, that way you could get a feel for being up in front of a crowd singing (and karaoke is something nobody expects perfection from…lol). Try out the song together and see how you feel about it. Another option could be to check out an open mic night where you can get up & sing whatever you wish. I think it would be a lovely idea for your reception if you are comfortable with it, a very personal touch!

I think that’s a great idea! I like happilywaiting’s idea of going to a karaoke bar. And if you choke up while signing at the reception, people will probably think it’s cute because you’re overwhelmed with emotion towards your new husband.

I think it will be great!
My FH and I are also musical and we are going to perform at our reception too. The bluegrass band we booked to do the music is the band that he used to tour with, so he is really comfortable with the guys. I have never performed with them, but I am sure it will be just fine. If it isn’t…well that is ok too
The coolest thing about this idea is the fact that you are going to give your guests a very special look at one of the things that makes you such an amazing couple. IMO, singing together is very intimate (think Johnny and June) and will be a wonderful opportunity to show everyone the love you share.
Practice is always the best way to gain confidence, but don’t worry too much about the nerves. You will either do a fantastic job, or you will get choked up but either way your guests will think it is amazing!!

Check out this video by Elysium Productions. Wait for it to upload and then fastforward to about 3/4 of the way through the video. The bride, Sheridan, sings "Feels Like Home" to her new husband at the reception and it is so sweet! It might be some good inspiration. 🙂 I think singing is a really cute idea, and you should go for it!
