I love the idea of doing single-tiered wedding cakes on several cake pedestals of varying heights, a la Mrs. Gummi Bear.  I'm not sure if I want the cakes to be all different designs or the same one.  Is anyone else doing this, or has anyone seen any pics or examples?

I'm doing it. I haven't met with the cake people yet, but my thought was to do single cakes on pedestals coming around in an arch and then I'm having our unity candle lit and burning in the little arch the cake makes. (I thought it was the best place to use our unity candle. How often is one really going to light it?)

I looked up pictures on google to take to our baker. Plus, when I called, single cakes like that are less expensive than an actual stacked wedding cake!

Thanks July2008bride!  Do you mind sharing the links for the pics you found?  For some reason I'm having trouble finding any!

    No problem.

Of course, you'll have to tell your baker what you really want, but I figure this will give them an idea of what you're going for. (I made the mistake of using little packets of sugar spaced in between my fingers when I told my FI and he was *alllllll* confused!)  Another hint, do the search under Google Images. And put in: tiered  wedding cakes

My sister had a somewhat tiered cake and it was lovely.  They actually a central two-tiered cake flanked by single layer cakes on each side.  I have seen several pictures of layered cakes where the layers are decorated differently but on a single theme; that would be really pretty with tiered cakes as well.  (I tried to paste one in, but it is not cooperating. Grrrr.)

Some friends of ours got married last August and did something similar.  They had 5 or 6 single layer cakes on cake stands and it looked great.  They were all different too, so guests were able to choose the kind of cake that they wanted. Yum!

I've seen several on Martha.  I think it's a great idea.
