I’m confused… are you having the food/reception in the actual theater part or in the lobby?  If you’re having it in the actual theater, where are you planning on having all the food set up and the cocktail tables?  Will they be on the stage or scattered about the aisles?

I hate to stand.  I would not stay at a reception where I couldn’t sit down.

so will they get their food and then go sit in the theatre seats?

Unless you are having heavy appeitizers wedding I think you need proper seating.

My daughter had a similar style reception, but seating was provided for all. I’d leave early if I had to stand all night.

If I’m understanding you correctly; I think since you’ve only got heavy appetizers and not a plated meal that the standing tables would be fine– anyone who wants to sit can go to the theater seating and simply hold their plate, and those who want to set it down would congregate around the high tables.

Our reception is in a theatre too so I feel your frustration on this one!  I think since you’re doing appetizers and not a formal dinner standing is okay, as long as you are okay with some people going to sit in the theatre seats. (It’s bound to happen)

So your guests would eat dinner facing a stage with their plates on their laps?  Would there be something interesting on the stage for them to watch or would they just sit and look at a curtain?  It sounds awkward to me, so if there space in the lobby to set up tables & chairs I would do that – even if you are only serving heavy apps, I can’t stand in heels for hours without a break and theater-style seating isn’t conducive to socializing.
