My dress is above your price range. I am a street size 14/16 with a curvy shape. 36C on top and 14" difference between my waist and hips.
Here's my dress:
And on my wedding day:

And here are some other's i tried on at pronovias that are under $2,000:
@Skoochabelle: Here is mine. It's Maggie Sottero Primavera size 14 I think. I am a size 16/18 but losing weight to fit into her.
(The flash makes her look shinier than she is)
Good luck in your search.

I am now officially a street size 12 - at the time I tried on my dress (in the picture), I was a 14, although the dress is a 12. My waist is a LOT smaller than my huge hips!

I'm not quite a street size 12, but not totally far away. My pant size varies a lot, from 7-9 and some 12's. My dress was a 14, though. I think A lines are great, corset backs, and (for me at least) drop waists.

I'm a street 12. I may have it altered to a strapless... I haven't decided yet. I'm 5'2" 165 and 36DD. Also, I'm not wearing a crinoline or spanx in this picture!

Howdy! Congrats on your engagement! Here are the picture from my last bridal salon visit:

Loving this thread and seeing real dresses on real brides my own size - keep 'em coming, ladies!
@maraschino:Date Twin!
here is a couple that I tried on. All within your budget. I am a street size 14-16

@miss.nicole: WOW - you look amazing! Did you choose one of those three!? I love the 2nd one. And your smile! All my pics from the bridal salon my face looks like a goofball, haha.
@Juliepants:Thank you so much! yes I went with the second one!
Gorgeous dresses ladies. I think deep V's with thick straps a very flattering on bigger busts if you can't carry off the strapless look. I am a 12-14 and personally hate the little bit of under arm fat I get from strapless. I also love sweetheart necks and round necks, all with thick straps. For thicker upper arms, I love love love three quarter length lave sleeves....so classic. And....what else...I think if you have a short torso or not much waist Alines are flattering. Coming in just under the bust and then gradually tapering out. If you are an hour glass shape with a small waist in contrast to bust and hips straight dresses or fishtai;s are gorgeous.
My dress kinda took away from my curves in the end somehow. Alterations did that and it is probably the only thing I miss about my dress pre-alterations. It was origionally a sample size 12 with a zipper back that we altered to a corset back to fit my 14 body. Otherwise, here she is!!!
From our Day After shoot:

And because I just can't get enough of the back of it...

Oh, and because the bustle that manages to pull up all 9 feet of that train just looks to darn good...

Yay! All sooo pretty! I can't wait to go dress shopping this weekend! Keep the pics coming -- I need all the help and inspiration I can get :-)
I'm a street size 12 and I was nervous about the dress shopping experience, but it was lots of fun...there was lots to try on... you'll have a great time.
I am street size 12/14 depending on the designer.
Here is my dress (Loretta by Sottero and Midgley) and it was a little underk $2k.

I'm a street size 10/12....
My Sottero & Midgley is a size 14.
Im a street size 12-14, my dress is a size 16. im 5'1" and a 38B. I bought my dress from a small boutique at my local mall for $800. It isnt a well known Name Brand dress, the tag said "A&T" as the brand... never heard of it ??

Im looking to sell it after its cleaned :)
OK, so have you all been doing loads of crunches/sit-ups, do you naturally have flat tummies, or are the dresses working some kind of magic? My two concerns are my tummy pooch sticking out, and my arms not being slim or toned. I suppose I could hit the gym but... magic dress would be so much easier! Ha. Tell me it's possible!
I';m a size 12 and my dress is also a size 12.
I'm 5'5" as well.
This is a Demetrios from the blue collection and cost me $2000 after tax
@Skoochabelle: I went to Kohls and bought this lingerie thing that just went around my belly (starts under my boobs and stops at the panty line) like a corset, only $25 It worked really great for me, but dont get the strechy kind, get the one with the hook and eyes :) As for arms, i wished i would have hit the gym a little more before the wedding but oh well, i think i was the only one to notice. Wall push ups are something you can do, it will help, if you do it a couple times a day (once right when you get up and at least one more time during the day, 15-30 reps each time)
i'm 5'8", 162lbs and am a street 12 mostly due to my huge hips and butt. Just tried my dress again yesterday and it was big :-) hoping to lose 12 more pounds by February when fittings start.

This is my dress when I decided to buy it. I don't have a picture of it fitted, YET! I'm a size 12 but the dress we ordered is a 14.
@Skoochabelle: Getting a corset back works wonders...In my dress I look so much slimmer...By the way Maggie Sottero/Midgley dress have great boning for shaping the body. But, I have been working on shedding some pounds.
I forgot to tell you my dress was $499 on sale and off the rack...It is possible to find a great dress under $1000. My Sottero & Midgley is from the 2008 line. So it was a rare find since the dress is discontinued. I believe it was originally in the 1k.
I wear a size 12 usually, my gown is a size 16. It's Oleg Cassini and it has a zipper in the back.
Hello, helpful Bees! First day of shopping this past weekend and I may have a winner with the third dress I tried on... Please ignore the "I'm a little teapot" pose (I was covering the flower on my hip, which I would remove and use the sparkly belt instead). I'm also not wearing makeup and, thanks to a three-hour wait at Motor Vehicles that morning, my hair isn't washed and blown out. (Grr.) Still want to shop a little more, would like to try some V-neck styles with straps, but so far I'm loving this one (Paloma Blanca 4165). And yeah... dress shopping is pretty fun (!) once you get past standing around in underwear and a strapless bra in front of the saleslady and your mom! haha

Im a street size 8-10, some 12s depending..My dress is a size 12, maggie corset back.It retails around 1500..i got it for the awesome price odf $300!!! This is before alterations as i have a year to go!
@KatNYC2011: I love that last pic you posted! Can you tell me the model #?
Im a street size 12 and my dress was a size 12...i think it should have been a 14 though.... oh well..to late now. (boobies are 32DD)

Hello! I got engaged a month ago and will be starting the dress hunt soon (yay!). Looking for examples of dresses (A-line? ballgown?) that flatter a size 12/14 hourglass-ish shape (I happen to be 5'5", bra size 38C). Oh, and ones that are under $2000. (Or better, under $1000!) Can't wait to see all of your beautiful pics! :-)
