I’m trying to decide on the carat size that I want. I am thinking of an Oval, possibly solitaire or Halo and want an realistic idea of what they will look like on a size 7 finger! FI doesn’t want something too big, but I want to make sure that I have enough sparkle! 🙂
Please help! Any advice would be great!
**Everyone is welcome to post pictures not of ovals! Can always use some extra ring porn!!

I think oval diamonds are beautiful! I have a size 5 1/2 finger, not a size 7, so I didn’t post a pic. However, I will say that I have an oval halo with a 1 carat center stone and I’ve gotten several comments that it looks big. When my best friend saw a picture before knowing the size she asked if it was a 2 carat center stone. Mine sparkles a lot too. I was more concerned with getting a decent sized ring with excellent cut, color, and clarity rather than a HUGE ring that didn’t have the specifications. I was also way more into having a beautiful setting than a solitare with a larger diamond. Just my personal taste. Halo is definitely going to make it look bigger and details are beautiful. Also, in my opinion you can’t go wrong with going to the store first to try on. Even if you don’t want to have any suprises spoiled by going with your fiance, jewelery stores will be more than happy to let you try on a few alone or with a girlfriend.

I have a size 6.75 finger so it’s pretty close to a 7! I love my oval because it is so unique and sparkles a tone! 🙂 I hope this helps!

I have a size 5.5 finger and a 1.3 carat RB. To me, the most important thing was to have an ideal cut stone. I was hoping for around a carat, so I was surprised he picked this stone. RB is my favorite cut, but oval is my next favorite. I’ll post a pic of my ring so you can see the proportion on my finger. FWIW, I am not a huge fan of halos, if you have a pretty center stone. Everyone has a different opinion there, though. I like my stone to do the talking;-)…..

FWIW, I think ovals look bigger than RBs….

I have a size 7 finger exactly! And I have an oval engagement ring with a halo. My center stone is a full carat. I have an additional .2 carats in the setting. I think it is a great size. It has a really brilliant sparkle and I get compliments but it is not overwhelming.

msvintagect: That’s a very subtle halo. I like that. Your ring is pretty!

Mrs.Sawyertobe: It looks very small from the top because it actually sits under the diamond a little bit rather than flush around it. I was unsure about it at first but it really makes my center stone look larger.

My oval ruby is 1.05 carats and the two diamond side stones are .3 carats each. I’m exactly a size 7 but my fingers are short.

My finger is size 8.5. My oval is 1.48ct. Because my setting is high, we chose a diamond cut slightly shallow, which also makes it face-up larger (7.3×9.7mm which is equivalent to 2.25ct).
I can’t post a picture because the new Bee is stupid. Sorry. But it’s the seventh post of this thread, also about ovals.
