It depends where you shop I think. Mostly I see people who have ordered a dress maybe four or six sizes bigger than their street size though. You won’t know until you go and try some on

Really vaires, typically I have to go one or two sizes up for dresses. My wedding dress was three sizes up! But I had parts of it taken in to get to just the right size for me.

For most people, they end up ordering a dress ~2 sizes larger than what size they typically take. However, if you are disproportionate to any given designer’s size chart (very large busted, etc…) you may have to size up more to accomodate that measurement and then have the dress tailored in elsewhere.

I must be in the minority here – I ordered a gown through David’s Bridal and it was exactly my street size for dresses and pants. I did have to get it let out a half inch though because I purchased it before the holidays last year, and well… you know how people eat during the holidays. 🙂

Street sizes are often the product of size inflation, while formal gowns often are not. So that said, it depends on where you shop. If you normally shop at very high end retailers (I do not), you won’t notice much of a difference between your street size and your gown size. If you shop at cheapie stores like Express (like me!), you’ll notice a pretty large difference. My gown was ordered two sizes bigger than the size I buy at stores like Express, and it’s actually still a little too snug.

depends on what style dress you choose. at davids bridal i was trying on and zipping up size 20 dresses, i wear 24 in jeans, and i ended up having to order a 26 and have it altered up top just so it would fit my hips.

My dress was ordered three sizes bigger. Apparently Justin Alexander sizes are smaller than average so the dress shop ordered an extra size up just to be safe.
