Okay bees, I need your opinion.
I found the ring of my dreams (YAY!) as soon as I found out about moissanite, I went to work searching and found something that is exactly what I want…but it’s the wrong size. I have big fingers (size 9) and the ring is a size 7. We are ordering my ring online and I contacted the seller today and talked to the sales manager who told me that the ring I chose could be taken up to a size 9 with no issue at all. He said they could have it done before sending it to us or that we could take it to a jeweler of our choice for the sizing.
Except, the ring is platinum plated silver and apparently it’s hard to find a jeweler that works with silver and does it correctly?
I just don’t know what to do. If we have them do it and we get it and find a problem with the ring or I hate it in person, we can’t send it back because it has been altered.
But I’m afraid that if we don’t have them size it, we won’t be able to find someone to do the sizing for us and do it correctly.
What should we do?

@raychul13: Where are you ordering from? I personally would not get a ring that was platnium coated just because replating would be expensive. Can you order the ring see it in person and then if you decide to keep it send it back and have them resize it? That or take a picture of the ring to a jeweler and have it custom made!

@prettyinpink11: We are ordering from moissaniteoutlet.com
I really wanted either a platinum or white gold ring and the one I love only comes in platinum-plated silver, sadly. I wanted white gold more. I thought about asking if we could buy it, look at it, and then send it back and have them size it, but I thought that might be too much trouble?

@raychul13: do you have a picture you can show us? because silver may not be very sturdy if you are planning on wearing it daily.

Only you can decide what level of risk that you and your SO are willing to take. However, I personally would not be at all comfortable making that type of significant purchase from an unknown seller online, given the factors that are still unknown.

@raychul13: If they want your business they should do whatever it takes to please you. I agree with @emstar168: though. Silver may not stury enough for daily wear. Have you looked on MoissaniteCo?

I would pass. You need it sized and they are the best ones to do that. You also need to be able to return it if it is not what you want. Too big of a risk For me.

I can’t seem to be able to save a picture of it, but here is the link to my ring:
I remember another bee saying she had a platinum plated silver ring from them so I’m going to ask her how hers holds up. Tomorrow I’m going to call around and see if any local jewelers can size it for me instead. It might not be that hard to find someone (I’m hoping)
Fingers crossed! I really want this ring 🙂

While you are calling, do ask if they can copy or come close to the design in metal that you would prefer. I just had custom rings made and it really was a good value with a reputable jeweler.

@raychul13: here is a thread from a fellow bee who got her ring from moissanite outlet (Ebay) – looks like hers did not hold up well from her comment at the bottom. No idea if hers is silver/platinum plated or not, but it was a halo.
Here is a ring with a similar gallery (not sure if that is the correct term – side view) but it is a cushion cut shape: http://www.moissaniteco.com/cushion-cut-moissanite-halo-engagement-ring-p-8283.html
