I’ve never really had bad breakouts before, but I’ve always dealt with blackheads and those really small little skin colored bumps. My normal facewash wasn’t helping, and I’ve tried quite a few other drug store brands with no results.
I went into Ulta to see my MUA friend so she could match me with foundation for my wedding day, and while I was there I got to talking to the skin care consultant about these issues and she recommended the Dermalogica Medi-bac kit. It’s a kit with a facewash, overnight clearing gel, spot treatment concealer, clay masque, and a sebum clearing gel…all contain salicylic acid.
I started using this morning and night about 2 weeks ago. I had one tiny pimple when I started it, and it cleared it up super fast. However, this week my skin has gone crazy. It may be a combination of hormones (AF), but my friend says that my skin is purging all the bad gunk out and it will clear up. This makes sense to me I guess because the breakouts are located where I had the most issues with blackheads and the tiny bumps (chin, jawline area).
I drink nothing but water and coffee, I eat healthy, and I change my pillowcase every week. I think these problems in this area come from me wearing a dusk mask sometimes at work.
Anyone experience this before? How long does it take to purge? I’m so worried my skin is going to look horrible on my wedding day.

I’ve been using Burt’s Bee’s products the last few months. It’s awesome. I have Rocasea and haven’t had a break out for months! I do a pure honey mask on the weekends too. I use their sensitive skin line.

Someone somewhere told me it takes 3-6 weeks When trying a new acne product for it to actually clear your skin. I’m probably talking out of my butt though. :/

@Helloemi: Hopefully it’s more like 3! This stuff needs to clear up fast! I’d rather deal with the hardly noticeable blackheads than these huge zits I’m getting! 🙁

You may want to go back to what was working until after the wedding. You don’t want to deal with skin discolorations from big pimples on your wedding day.

@KH: Honestly, nothing I’ve tried has really ever worked for the blackheads and the little bumps so I was hoping this stuff would. I would still get one or two zits here and there. I’m going to continue using what I have left from the kit (it was kind of pricey) and hope that after this “purge” as they call it clears up I will see better results.

I have used Retin-A, Differin, etc. I don’t have bad acne, but I figured at my age, I shouldn’t still be getting pimples.
I have never been able to stick with any of them because of the purging. I would rather have a few small pimples than deal with insane skin for months. At this point, I don’t put anything on my face. I just wash it and deal with the occasional breakouts.
You definitely don’t want to start a regimen like this if you have an event coming up in just a few months.
