I have stopped washing my face with soap/cleanser.  I know it sounds gross but it just dries out your skin and is really not necessary (unless you’ve been cleaning a chimney:)  I use a mild scrub in the shower and then old-fashioned Pond’s Cold Cream at night to remove makeup.  I use Oil of Olay spf 15 for day and a night cream (any kind) before bed.  Oh, and I always use a serum before moisturizing.

As far as break-outs go, the only thing that has ever worked is a really low dose of doxycycline (an oral antibiotic).  I swear my face looks fab and I never get zits anymore.  But topical stuff, no matter how expensive has always been a fail for me.

@missmuggins: you are pretty young still, so IDK about the cold cream unless you have dry skin.

I use a soap-free cleanser (Purpose by Johnson & Johnson) and use it with just my hands when I’m in the shower and use a washcloth at the sink in the morning. I notice a big difference when I don’t wash in the shower, so I think that it really helps to have my pores open. I never use scrubs because they always break me out or irritate my skin.

For moisture I really don’t like to use a product if I don’t have to, because my skin is super sensitive. If I get dry areas I use clinique’s gel formula.

For sunprotection, I again have problems finding products. I have neutrogena’s SPF 110 with UVA and UVB protection that I wear if I know I’m going to be in the sun most of the day (on the lake, for instance), but for things like walking the dog I use a big floppy hat.
