Most of the inactive pills are sugar pills or iron pills so they don’t change the effectiveness of your birth control pills.  Can’t say for sure without knowing which pills you are on though.  It is not safe to skip any active pills though.

I would say yes, because I am on Seasonale and I go three months without getting my period. Prior to them coming out with Seasonale they just use to prescribe the regular pill and advise the skip the sugar pills. I think you should be fine since this will be three months and then you will go back to getting your period.

You can absolutly skip the sugar pills.  3 months should be no problem.

I skip my period all the time.  There is a pill where you don’t get periods EVER called Lybrel.

You can definitely skip the sugar pills in the next pack – I used to do that all the time before I was put on Seasonale continuously. Just be prepared in case you have a little breakthrough bleeding.

I used to do this all the time with pills where they are the same every day.

But now I am on a pill which has a different level of hormones for each week.  Now I am too scared to do it.

@cvbee: With pills that have different levels of hormones, I don’t think you are able to skip any pills without losing effectiveness.

MissAsB  … I think you missed the whole point of her original question and this post…

In my first post, I was just trying to say that there are some pills that don’t have the same level of hormones in all the pills which makes it so you can’t skip any of the pills.  Was just trying to make sure that the OP was safe and knew for a fact that her pills have a week of inactive pills.

I think you should be fine. But be prepared to have a very light period or some spotting. Still better than a full-on period.

Breakthrough bleeding is pretty common actually.  I had a lot of it when I started taking Lybrel for a few months.

you should be fine.

i actually had the same paranoia, so i did the “safer” way of changing my period by, starting a new pack, taking two weeks of active pills and stopping that pack early, so i would get my period a week earlier than normal. it worked and now my period is two weeks before my wedding week :)…

the week of active pills wasted was totally worth my fear. i just started a new pack after my period was done and now im back to normal.

i guess either way you’re risking something, but if you’re really paranoid, you can be like me and practice abstinence until you’re back on your normal bc schedule with period coming on the week you want instead of yoru wedding week!

I did it the other way. I extended the time between each set of active pills to push my period back a few days. Just a couple days each month and now it shouldn’t start till after we’re back from the honeymoon. I only use the pill to control the heaviness and length of my periods. We also use condoms so I haven’t been worried about getting pregnant. Plus, we just started a two month fast before the wedding. (It’s already driving me crazy.)
