Probably check out some wine stores?  I bet they sell boxes like that for gifts.  Not necessarily meant for weddings, but I’m sure it will work.  Or look online for wine gifts, I’m sure you’ll find something like this.

Love this idea! We love wine and we were looking for something different to incorporate into the ceremony … I didn’t want to do unity candle/sand either. The only other thing I saw that incorporated wine was having a glass of white and a sep glass of red, and then pouring them together to make a blush and then drinking that. Just too scared to risk spilling on my dress.

Have you already decided on the language you’ll be using to do this? Do each of you bring the letter to the ceremony (have the MOH hold it like the ring) and then hand it to you when its time?

Really digging this idea… would definitely be interested to hear more about how you’re doing it. Please let me know!!

Aboslute perfection!  We love wine, my parents have a vineyard and FI is learning the winemaking ropes, he’ll be making his very own this year!

I love that you shared this with us, and inspired us ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re doing this too, but I’ve heard of it with a different twist then yours. Now i don’t know which one i like better!! The twist I heard was instead of opening it on your 1st year anniversary, you leave the box sealed indefinitly. It is only opened in the case of emergency so to speak. If there is ever a time when the marriage is in trouble, neither party can walk away until they opened the box, both sit down together, drink the wine, and read each others letters. In the letters both parties write what they love most about the other, and why they are marrying them. This is to help you both remember what you love about each other during the hard times. Each day looking at the unopened box reminds you both of your strong bond and love. Upon making it to your 50th wedding anniversary, if the box has remained unopened you open it on that day and celebrate your love for each other.

Just a different take on it for you. Also, regarding the box I’m not sure how handy your FI is, but what about having him make it? I might have my Groom make it, it would be something he could look at and feel like he contributed to the wedding in a way that is special for him. but I love the pictures of the boxes you had on your post they are beautiful!!!

Where did you get those boxes in your pics???

I’ve always read about this more like Pilotsgirl09. A lot of people decide to open the box on the 25th anniversary, thinking that if you get that far, there shouldn’t be any emergencies.

I have been thinking about doing this since I read about it on a previous post, but I like the idea of opening it on the first year anniversary.  I think this is what we will be doing.
