My first post here! It seems like a lot of people have posted about their experiences getting the Skyla IUD inserted, but how has it been afterwards? Has anyone had it for a couple of weeks or longer and if so, what are the side effects?
I’ve had terrible reactions to hormonal birth control in the past and have tried EVERYTHING (6 different kinds of pills & nuvaring). I’m currently on Mircette which is ok, doesn’t give me mood swings, cystic acne, migraines, or hair loss, but I have zero sex drive, to the point that my fiance asked if I could talk to my doctor about trying something else (it’s clear to both of us that the pill is the culprit here). I’ve thought about a diaphram but I’m in grad school and REALLY do not want to get pregnant now. I’m scared to try the Skyla IUD because I was on a pill with the same progesterone (Alesse, which has levonorgestrel) and it gave me terrible side effects, mostly acne/oily skin and hair loss. But I know the Skyla has a much lower and more localized dosage, even much lower than Mirena. My doctor does not insert copper IUDs but will insert hormonal ones.
So: Has anyone who had terrible experiences with the pill been able to tolerate Skyla? Or not tolerate it?
It would be nice to hear some experiences before I talk to my doctor about it. Thanks!
