@JaneyJane:  I haven’t experienced anything like this at all. My SO was recently diagnosed with RLS. Totally different symptoms than what you’re experiencing. I had him see a movement disorder specialist. He’s on meds now that have helped. You should see a neurologist even if just to tell you no need to freak out.

@JaneyJane:  I’ve never had the head pressure or head shaking thing, but I occasionally have sleep paralysis and my chest will feel weighed down like I’m pinned to the bed/couch. It’s been happening every so often for about 12 years as well. I hear it’s more common for women for some reason. And it usually comes with auditory hallucinations as well! Sooo creepy! The first time it happened I swore the cat in the hat was having a conversation with someone in my dining room, as I was paralyzed on the couch in the living room creeped out, lol. The worst one was when I was in my room about 6 months ago in the middle of the night and I heard this deep other worldy voice. I seriously felt like it was an evil presence trying to enter my body because I kept feeling heavier and heavier, and couldn’t move or speak. When I woke up I got up (I guess I was trying to turn the light on) and my arms were so heavy it was really scary!

ETA: I don’t have true visual hallucinations during these spells, but often times certain things that are actually in my line of vision in real life will be distorted to look like something else. Like once there were balloons that were moving because of the fan, but in sleep paralysis it looked kind of like a weird person moving around. And another time a poster of this actor on the back of my door looked like an actual person standing in the doorway. So strange!

@JaneyJane:  i haven’t ever had sleep paralysis but my FI has told me of a few scary things i do while i’m sleeping, completely unbeknownst to me. a few months ago, while i was sleeping, my FI said he woke up to the top half of my body raised out of our bed and my chest was raised up and i gasped for breath. he said it looked like i was trying to ‘leave’ my body. he said he was too scared to wake me up so just let me do whatever my body was trying to do.

then last night, he said that my entire body was jerking and spasm-ing (sp?) around and said it very much looked like i was ‘trying to float away’. it is kind of scary to hear these things happen to me while i’m sleeping because i don’t remember any of it. the best thing my FI and i could come up with is maybe my body/subconscious/mind is trying to astral project (i know it sounds crazy)…but i’m not sure. having weird things happen while you sleep is such an unsettling feeling…because sleeping should be peaceful and calm.

i’ve had other weird things happen to me while sleeping but i’m 100% sure it was because of an evil presence in my house…long story!! i hope things get better for you!

I used to experience it when I was younger, it was terrifying!! I have had a few sleep studies done and they concluded nothing was wrong with me. I noticed it has lessened since I’ve started exercising on a regular basis and I avoid sleeping on my back (it only seemed to happed while sleeping on my back).

Best of luck!
