wow I’ve never heard of this but boy that would be so scary. Around a year ago FI had night terrors and one time I heard him making noises and looked in his face to ask him if he was ok when he woke up and his eyes got all big and he said, what the heck! scared the crap out of me!

It happened to me quite a bit while I was pregnant. Then it just stopped. It’s sooo strange.

This happens to my mother when she is really tired.  I don’t know if extreme fatigue causes it though.

yeah that’s happened to me a couple times, luckily i was with FH both times and somehow he noticed and knew what it was immediately and shook me. it’s terrible! it’s like you’re awake but can’t move! i was trying to scream or move or anything but it was like… i was stuck in my skin. i think FH said that he felt me tense up and i might have had some eye movement or a quiet whimper or something… i can’t remember! either way, he saved me :]

Hey, I have had it before and it’s terrifying when it happens. It happens to me when I am over tired and have a lot on my mind.

I’ve had it happen once in a while. i’ve heard stress or fatigue can cause it — but no idea for sure. It really is freaky!

Happens to me about once a month. My FI is well aware that I have this problem, and usually comes to my rescue. It has only happened to him once, which was last week and now that he knows how terrifying it is, he is more concerned when it happens to me! Alll I do is try my damndest to make some sort of noise.

Haha!  I remember when I first learned of this, my superstitious friends were telling me it is because a spirit is laying right on top of you, that’s why you feel all heavy.  The spirit is trying to enter your body and the only way to stop it is to move your body.  That’s why it feels like you are paralyzed!  When it first happened to me, I was screaming in my head, “Move! Move!!”  It scared the hell out of me.

It happens to me not too often, but I notice it is always when I am laying flat on my back and in a deep sleep.

I have a friend with narcolepsy that gets this sometimes.  But if you don’t have any of the other symptoms, I’d just try your best to remain calm and breathe through it, because it will pass.  If you know what’s going on, hopefully it’s less scary.

It happens to me every so often. Either I’m sick or I’m really tired but wake up during REM sleep. I can’t move and it is scary. After a minute or so I finally “shake” myself to being able to move! Wow! It doesn’t bother me as much when I’m sick, because I can barely movce anyway. But it scares the crap out of me when I wake up in the middle of the night and it happens. When I was a little girl, this happened often and I used to think it was demons… so when I wake up as an adult it’s almost like I think back to that mindset, and then realize how ridiculous I’m being!

I too get this, but not often.  Many times it feels like I can see everything in the room and I’m floating in the air and I cna’t move, or I’m trying to fight some spirt or ghost and my arms are so heavy.  It freaks me out every time that I will turn on the lights to get back to sleep. 😛

Yep.  I’ve heard things, felt things, etc.  Your body is frozen and you can’t wake up.  It’s scary.
