My husband is going to be gone on a business trip next week and I’m already dreading it.  I have no problem sleeping by myself if I’m taking a nap (like that ever happens) or sleeping in on a day he works and I don’t, but there is something about going to bed alone at night.  I know it’s going to be hard to fall asleep.

Eh, I don’t like it. The bed is too big for just lil old me! But it is nice to sleep in when he has to go to work early – I just don’t like having to go to bed at night on my own.

    I hate sleeping without him.

I hate it.  I have nightmares almost 7 nights a week, so when I wake up with a start it’s always nice to have him right there.

I have no problem falling asleep without him as long as I know he’s going to be next to me at some point in the night!

@divergirl:I am in the same camp, I love it when he is in the bed with me because I feel safe but I also like having the entire bed to myself. I also love when I travel for work because I end up getting a king sized bed to stretch out.

The best, (and I used to hate this) is when he sleeps in the guest room.  I still feel safe because he is home but I get to have our bed all to myself!!

If I can fall asleep I LOVE having the room to spread out, but I usually hear something and get nervous and can’t sleep as well. Or I wake up in the middle of the night and have trouble falling back asleep.

But I do have to say it is nice not to accidentally roll over into his elbow or knee!

I kind of love it because the dogs are allowed in bed when he’s gone; it makes me feel like I’m breaking the law and it’s fun, however I miss him and don’t sleep perfectly.

Funny story: He was gone, dogs were in bed, and I was half asleep. In my state, I heard this noise and thought someone was breaking into the house, so I freaked out about what I could do. Then, I started waking up. When my mind started actually working, I realized the dogs weren’t doing anything. It was our larger dog, Pantani, snoring. Everytime I think about it, I laugh to myself.

@divergirl: It’s totally irrational for me to be scared because I live on the 11th floor of an apartment building with security key card access behind super sturdy old school fire doors (1940s construction). No fire escapes either so no way to climb up the outside. But I still get nervous from time to time.

I have a hard time sleeping when he’s gone, which is 1-2 weeks at a time during certain times of the year.  Luckily, this week I have been sleeping fine, but for the most part, I have a hard time falling asleep without him there to snuggle with.

i miss him! my fiance deployed in june and i spend many nights tossing & turning. but i have found it helpful to wrap myself up in a blanket like a burrito & pack in the blankets 🙂 i probably look ridiculous, but it makes our king-sized bed seem not-so-empty.

I have determined that it simply depends on how long he is going to be away. If he is away on duty then it is just for one night and I REVEL in having the bed to myself. If he is away at training/school/underway/deployment then the first night is fabulous since it feels like a duty night. Night 2? Forget it. I will be lucky to get a couple of hours. Nights 3+ tend to improve until I just reach the point of missing him but able to sleep without excessive issues.
