Slideshow song suggestions?

posted 7 months ago in Beehive

How's that for alliteration? :)

We are putting together a slideshow for the wedding - pictures of me growing up, him growing up, then our time together. We have the song for the last bit - "First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes, but can't for the life of us think of growing up songs that fit us. I've seen the same ones going around (My Girl, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, etc. for me, My Guy, 100 Years for him) but they don't strike a chord with us (pun intended!) Our personal tastes are alt/indie stuff, like Postal Service, Death Cab, Arcade Fire, etc., so country or standards aren't really us.

Any suggestions? What songs are you going to use?

We just finished our slideshow this weekend. Quite a production getting all that together!

I chose Fergie's "Clumsy" for the song that goes with my pictures. My fiance chose Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" for his pictures. I guess they are kind of inside joke songs with us, but all our friends and family who will see the slideshow will understand why we chose those songs.

For the song that will play with our couple pictures, we chose Kenny Chesney's "Baby, You Save me."

Not sure how well they all flow into each other, but we don't really care!

oH yay I had fun picking the slideshow songs.  For my part im using 311 amber only cuz its one of my favorite songs.  For his part we're using 1979 - smashing pumpkins cuz thats the year he was born. For our family/friends/us we're using In my life - Beatles (so the old people know at least one of our songs)!

We chose 'So close' from the Carpenters. Corrinne May recorded it as a remake but unfortunately that version is not available. But the original version is great too. Here is the link of Corrinne Mays version that was used in the Movie 'So Close' which I can highly recommend as well.

Other than that I would

try Renée Olsteads 'A love that will last'

(Nice song for a first dance as well)

Enjoy!

I like your style..I picked some modern rock/alt songs, too, because I didn't want to go with the standards but still wanted the sentiment.

Here's a few suggestions for any part of the slide show.  Yes, some of the songs have some sad lyrics, but , you can have your video guy edit the songs to only play the verses you like and lead into another song to cut out the lyrics you don't want...

1.  Everlong by Foo Fighters - L.A.'s KROQ plays an awesome acoustic version.

2.  Such Great Heights by Postal Service - You even listed them!  I love this song and there's a few in the Hive who said this was going to be their first dance.

3.  Time of Your Life by Green Day

4.  Pictures of You or Letter to Elise by The Cure

5.  All I Want Is You by U2

Let Go by Frou Frou (Garden State soundtrack).

This is what we used:

My part - Beautiful Girl by INXS

His part - Story of my Life by Social Distortion

Friends and Family - The Middle by Jimmy Eat World (the lyrics are kinda irrelevant, but I liked the upbeat melody)

Last part - Rest of my Life (Acoustic) by Unwritten Law

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll be youtubing tonight... Keep 'em coming, hopefully this thread will be useful for others too!

Camille - Close to You is our first dance song! It's not our usual listening fare, but it is really meaningful to us. (Hopefully people don't think of the Simpsons when they hear it first come on...) Nice!
